No kidding. What happened? Tim Byrdak looked great last year, although he did have some rough patches. Nothing like this, though. I only saw against the Nationals about 10 days ago, but he was horrible in that outing, and then four more walks against the Orioles... just too much. With so many Tigers fans already crying about the bullpen, it'll be interesting to see what the boards will say now.
I could see the Tigers going with one lefty. Byrdak had a chance and he blew it. My guess is that some of these guys may be out of options and therefore Byrdak pitched himself off the roster.
I have heard rumours of the Tigers going after Brian Fuentes. He would certainly be a nice addition to the team. Though I have to admit I don't know what the Rockies would want. It would have to be pitching and the Tigers don't have much to offer.
Anyone have an info on Cruceta? Is he still stuck in the Dominican Republic? I believe he is one of those guys that is out of options.
According to this mornings Detroit News, "he ran into visa captivity for reasons the State Department has not divulged". He's been incarcerated/jailed in the Dominican Republic! Probably for drugs, great! Maybe we can get Urbina out of jail in Columbia and trade for him.
Why wouldn't the Tigers take a chance on Aaron Fultz, LH reliefer, who was just cut by the Indians? Like it or not, the Indians have a better bullpen than the Tigers. Maybe he can help. He posted some very good numbers last year, but had a bad spring.
Always glad to hear about a old pitcher with little value being cutLittle value? Did you watch any games last year. He was very reliable. 3.20 era 49 k's in 45 innings. Thats pretty good...especially with our bullpen. Plus we have no lefty's left. So we have 1 lefty reliever. That aint good!
most teams only have one left-handed reliever. at least it's not Jamie Walker. I'm a little worried too, though, because Bobby Seay hasn't exactly been the picture of consistency during his career either. I doubt a deal is imminent, but I'd expect one during the season. You guys gotta stop this Brandon Inge for a reliever nonsense. Who is out there that is going to be worth having to eat half of Brandon's contract, which Dombroski already said the Tigers won't do?
I am just amazed at how quickly our team has changed from lockdown pitching and struggling to find a hit, to a merry-go-round at the plate and a million questions on the mound. Then again, we went from the gutter to butter in two years, so I guess anything is possible with the Tigs.
I wouldn't be surprised to see some kind of deal get done, just because Leyland seemed pretty confident. I have no idea what we could actually get done though.
