Don't you guys remember Murray v. Beaman? Lopez won't be hosting anything. Neither will anybody with charisma under 60 years old. Finchem probably learned from his predecessor and needs a "golf guy" to try and drum up interest in a no-name event. Problem is - outside of the majors, Tiger, and a select few tournaments, "the masses" don't care. Try as they might - change the format, the host, the course etc... - it won't affect a thing whether it be the Clam Bake, Doral, the Honda et al...

If the PGA went back to playing a Monday qualifier for local pros and top local amateurs - then people will care. Well, almost. More people will care, and those are your true fans.

I love the Monday qualifier idea!  Gives true "unknowns" an opportunity to shine.
