What I'd really like to see is for Jeff Reynolds to establish more depth. The three core players you name are the ones you'd expect to be the leaders. The remaining minutes should be more equitably distributed, so as to give promising young players the experience they'll need to become leaders on future AF teams.
I guess that's the one beef I'd have with the last 5 years of AF b-ball -- the bench has always been a bit too short. You've regularly had 4-5 players averaging 30+ minutes a game; thus, the players start to fade toward the end of the season.
That's one of two root causes for continued MWC tourney ineptitute -- the other being a first round MWC opponent getting to see the princeton offense for the 3rd time in a season. (They're usually going to do better the 3rd time than the 1st.)
Overall, I'd say the season was an 8 on a 10 point scale. Losing to Colorado definitely the low point, but overall a resounding success considering the losses from last year and the overall 20+ year context of AF b-ball.
I'd expect next year's team to be similar. Getting into the NIT would be huge, but I wouldn't put money on it. A similar record to this year, combined with laying a good foundation for future years would be a success in my opinion.
