Okay so today's poll is whose the Braves biggest in-division rival for 2008?
personally I believe the Braves/Mets rivalry is one of the best in baseball and is vastly overlooked. With that being said, who do you believe will be the braves' biggest rival for 2008? No doubt it'll be a 3 team dograce, but who will be the braves biggest foe?

I think that the Mets will be the biggest foe, but the Mets vs Phillies rivalry is bigger than the Mets vs Braves. Philadelphia hates New York in all sports, and they are only 2 hours by car apart. It makes for some interesting fan moments.

The city of Philadelphia hates everyone (even Santa Claus)! But even though the Phillies and Mets are a great rivalry, you can't argue with seeing Chipper coming up to the plate and all the Met's fans chanting Larry, Larry, Larry and Chipper going yard. Go Braves!

lol.. indeed. the phanatics and metfans are about on the same level when it comes to fans. That's one thing i like about atlanta's fans. The majority of us are laid back and simply enjoy a good ballgame.

I'll give you the fact that the Philly and NY fans are really keyed up, but the Atlanta based sports fans are too laid back. They are constantly considered the worst pro sports fans in the country for their unwillingness to truly support their teams. Just look at the playoff games the Braves had the last 6 or 7 years of the streak. They didn't fill the stands. Which is sad because the Braves are truly the class of baseball. I wish I lived close enough to get to the Ted more than I have been. The 900 mile drive pretty much forces me to cheer for the Braves in the hostile yet fun Philly environment. Go Braves beat the East!

"Just look at the playoff games the Braves had the last 6 or 7 years of the streak"-brvs
Gee, not this argument again. Myself and another poster battled for a good month, month and a half last year over the fans of Atlanta, especially Braves fans.
I hate to sound smug, but during the streak division titles weren't exactly what Atlantans considered exciting. On top of that most of the games were day games. Granted we were in the worldseries in 99 but it was a horrid 4 game sweep by the Yankees which probably left a stale taste in the mouth of braves fans, I know it did mine.
On top of all of that, Baseball is by far the #1 sport in the south. Pro football, college football and every redneck's favorite "sport" nascar are all more popular than baseball.
It also isn't quite fair to compare atlanta and the south to New York/Philadelphia and the north. Population per sq. mile is incredibly higher than in Georgia. "northern fans" are certainly more wound up as opposed to the laid back casual fan of the south.
Let us also look at the other teams around Atlanta: Pro Football- Atlanta Falcons. Gee, do we really wanna stir up that pot of crap again? Pro Basketball- Atlanta Hawks. I don't know their record, I dont even know when the last time they made the playoffs or even if they have for that matter. Pro Hockey- Atlanta Thrashers. Actually, hockey is pretty fun live. I am by far a hockey pro though. College sports- uGa, Ga Tech. Okay so here is where the southern fans start to go crazy. We love our college football down here. And then of course there is NASCAR. Two Sundays out of every year Atlanta Motor Speedawy packs in close to 250,000 people. Crazy, I know. I don't get it either.
Back to baseball though, I personally believe that these two past years have been good for braves fans. We were way too smug and confident in our thinking that we will always make the playoffs. Hopefully this will bring us down a bit and we will support our beloved team by going to more games. The braves fans are hungry for october again, which is a very good thing. Pair that with all the different types of flex plans the braves are offering, you will definitely see a rise in attendence. I am not sure of the numbers but I'm almost positive that attendence numbers jumped last year. I myself attended more games last year than I have in any other year of my adult life. (granted that has only been 6 or so years.)
We have new owners, a new man in the general mangers office.. probably a new manager within the next 3 years if not next season. Smoltz and Glavine will be gone. The face of the Braves is changing. Young faces can't only be found on the field. Look up in the stands. We have a very young fan base which only means positive things for the future.

I think the Braves-Mets rivalry is much better than the phils because there have been so many different times when the mets fans have hated Braves players for doing things John Rocker and Chipper Jones. The Phillies just don't have that history with the Braves.
Fellow Braves Fans check out my baseball blog that i update daily recently projected NL East standings
All standings will be done please leave a comment and do my poll.

Wow BC10 you are going to get me fired for spending so much time reading that post. I am familiar with the population surrounding Atlanta as compared to the North East, but considering that Atlanta is still one of the largest cities in this country, and the surrounding area is very densely populated the Braves should be filling up the stands for any playoff game. As far as day games go, even when the Cubs suck they still manage to turn out a good crowd for their regular season games; most of which are still played during daylight hours. Anyway the point is that a good fan base wouldn't let their team play a playoff game in a half full stadium. As for the fact that Football is king in the south I'll grant you that (even though the Falcons fan base is horrible as well even when they are playing fairly well and there is no craziness going on with the organization. I purposely stayed away from that earlier by the way). However, last time I checked Southern Baseball is where most of the American players are developed in high school and college. Just look at the young guys from GA on the Braves team over the last couple years.
Hopefully, you are right and the last couple years did much to put a fire back in the fan base. We can only hope.

Sometimes Bravochick, I think that we are TOO laid back. Paying a compliment to the Mets fans (about the only one i will give this year), Mets fans are rabid! Good or bad, they are going to be loud. Bravochick, good to see you back! Go Bravos

Much like in Football, you have certain rivalries that will never die. Since the Braves and Mets have really begun their rivalry in earnest, it has been one of the most fun to watch year in and year out. Too bad that the Braves don't really have this kind of rivalry with the Phillies anymore. Their NLCS in 1993 was killer for us Braves fans, but good for baseball.

I think the Mets will most certainly be the biggest obstacle for the Braves this year. The Phillies won't repeat what they did last year mainly because the Braves and Mets are better hitting teams. Also the historic collapse of the Mets last year won't be repeated by them or Atlanta, whoever happens to be leading the division late will win it. I just hope our bullpen holds leads more consistently this year.

Im gonna have to go with the Mets as the biggest Braves rival, not to say that i like the philadelphia one bit, but the best games, by far to watch are braves-mets. My favorite memory from last year was a game at shea (the one where willie made the sick catch to end it) and hearing all the mets fans chanting, "Larry, Larry, Larry!" and then watching "Larry" hit a 470 foot bomb off the base of their scoreboard.
one team that i think could get a vote possibly, (especially if were talking about non division rivals) that hasnt been mentioned is the Astros. the braves and astros always seem to play each other late in the year, and earlier on it was the braves that were getting the better of houston, but the last two times the braves went to the playoffs it was houston beat them, and last year, if i remember correctly, it was houston that officially knocked us out of the race. this is not to say that i hate houston even remotely close to the way i hate the mets or phils, it was just something i thought about

Philly sucks at life, I am pretty sure it has been named murder capital of the country for multiple years in a row now. But Braves-Mets is the much bigger rivalry. Gonna be so gratifying to watch them go sub .500 and finsh 4th in the east.
