Memphis is the worst shooting free throw team in the nation (56.3%), while the Spartans are ranked 60th w/ 73.1% for the season. It's true - they are extremely flawed and they also didn't look very impressive against Texas A&M.
In the tournament alone, the Spartans free throw shooting is at 96+% while Memphis is around 62+%.
Izzo's a better coach (IMHO), and the Spartans play quick half court sets w/ good fundamentals. It's very simple: put Memphis in foul trouble and they are through, plus MSU's bench is much deeper than Memphis.
Sorry, but it's another disappointing year for the Showboat Tigers. The free throw game will catch up to you this week as the Spartans win it decisively, 77-71.
SPARTY ON!

Correction:
For the tournament, MSU's free throw % = 92.6%. Memphis = 62.9% (does it really matter?)
For the season, Memphis = 59.6% (worst) while MSU = 73.1% (60th). The #1 free throw team this season was Utah State (79.2%).
Rebounding:
MSU is 29th for the season (37.2 / game)
Memphis is 3rd (40.8 / game)
3.5 rebs? Sparty can handle that.
MSU: 77
Memphis: 71

The Spartans absolutely should feel good approaching this game. They are playing at a true tournament level and can play with anyone right now. It is so tough to defend a team that has 7-10 guys putting up points, and I'll put the Spartan D up against anyones. Izzo vs. Calipari; May the best true coach (Izzo) win.

How can anyone even compare apples and oranges. Izzo may be good for a high school coach, but Calipari is in the final 4 for NCAA coach of the year. Didn't even see Izzo's name in the running.

Anyone who's called "chryslerfan" (and an obvious fan of chrysler) has ZERO credibility and integrity here. I mean, after all, isn't Chrysler one of THE WORST automotive companies? Their quality is crap, their vision is crap, and all they have going for them is the Viper - - and even that is over priced!!
Do your research, chryslerfan, first off: Izzo is not a high school coach, he ranks at one of the most successful college coaches today. He has a 26-9 record in the NCAA tourney. ALSO - for 2007 vehicles, Forbes's Top 10 WORST vehicles (quality and safety), Chrysler had a record FIVE vehicles that made that Top 10 worst list!
How about that for quality and innovation? Get with the program: MSU wins, and Lexus rules!

Hmmm ... Memphis played Texas A&M? Oh yeah, last year in the sweet 16 ... they won that game.
It is laughable to think that Mich St has a deeper bench than Memphis. Memphis goes 10 deep, 10 different guys have led the team in scoring. Memphis was in the worst foul trouble of the year against Miss St and still pulled the game out against one of the best defensive teams in the country.
"Another disappointing year" .... yeah, back to back Elite 8s sure feels disappointing.
The only point this comment makes that is valid is that Mich St is better at free throws. Unfortunately for Sparty, Memphis is better at pretty much everything else.
Good Luck, you'll need it.

Texas A&M, Mississippi State, maroon and white, what's the difference? They both lost anyhow.
MSU does have a deeper bench than Memphis, and you got to admit that Memphis looked HORRIBLE against Mississippi State. You nearly lost that game and it was a nail biter thanks to their inability to make free throws. Talk about luck....? I'd say you used your last rabbits foot.
I will give Memphis an A++ for bbq, but that's about it. Sparty burns Memphis is this one, 77-71

I don't want to predict victory and jinx sparty but, Conference USA? Are you freakin kidding me?
Here's a stat for ya BBQ, Memphis has never won a championship, as a matter of fact they haven't even appeared in one. Northwestern, or Penn State could have Memphis type stats if they played in Conference USA. The first time they played a legit team in Tennessee this year they lost at HOME. If you're satisfied with back to back elite eights I feel sorry for you. Real programs win Championships. Memphis will have to work if they want to win this one. Coach Izzo and co. will give Memphis all the can handle in this matchup. Sparty has already torched one bandwagon, looks like Memphis is next in line.
