We released him, why? Why not Adam Lind....Shannon Stewart was hitting like .220....and we release Reed instead. Speechless...

I agree two years ago Reed Johnson had an amazing season. This spring he was showing with his number he was recovered and ready for another 2006. where he an OBP of 390 or batted 316. Shannon was good now hes old and not as good in the field. This is an appaling move. Is shannon gonna stand there and let a fastball hit him! Damn the only reason this makes sense as Shannon is cheaper.
We will miss you read I loved your effort!

In my opinion, the release of Reed Johnson is a baaaaad move!

Sure the Jays need offense, but it is still true that pitching and defense are the major building blocks of a championship.  Even allowing for the (probable) fact that Shannon will hit more than Reed, he (Reed) is a much superior defensive outfielder, with the ability to play any of the three outfield positions, and to go in for defensive purposes to replace Matt Stairs in the late innings.  In contrast, Stewart is questionable even in left, and cannot possibly play Center or Right.

I just hope Wells and Rios stay fully healthy, because I'd hate to see Scutaro in the outfield for any substantial length of time.

Aside from the financial savings (are they "that" desparate to get the payroll under $100K?), the only advantage in keeping Stewart would be if Thomas fails as DH, requiring Stairs and/or Stew to take over -- and at that point you need Reed even more!!!

Sorry, JP, but I think you blew it -- and I really wonder whether John Gibbons truly "had a vote" -- my guess is that he did not.

What no one had pointed out yet was that in the past three years, Shannon Stewart has struggled hitting against lefthanded pitchers, and those pitchers are what Stewart will be batting against most often while platooning with Matt Stairs.

Rolen might be out for a month or so, Rios and Thomas look very bad this spring. Wells and Burnett better earn there money some time.

Those are all bigger concerns for me.

Fire Riccardi and Gibbons now. Reed Johnson released? What the hell are they thinking. Mark my words, Reed will come back to haunt us. And now with Rohlen with a broken digit.....seems we're starting 7 games back of the Yankees and Red Sox and the first pitch hasn't been thrown. Good God Almighty....all I am asking for is a post season appearance damn it.

Go Jays!!
