In case you haven't already seen the article on Sportsline: http://www.sportsline.com/mlb/story/10728112

Manny wants to play 6 more years with the Red Sox and make it to 600 homeruns. His prediction is that the Sox pick up his options for 2009 and 2010, then sign him to a 4 year deal.

The guy is quite a character, and I hate to tell him no way that happens. I think they will pick up his options, but no way does he get a 4 year deal as a 38 year old. I can see where they might try to keep him until he's 40, but no way they give him that long term of a deal at that age. Maybe an extension on his deal with some more team options? That sounds more like the Theo Epstein M.O. to me.

Agree - Based on how he performs over next 2 years the Redsox may give him a 2 year deal. Then maybe single year deals after that.

However stranger things have happened. He looks to be in real good shape and is determined to have a great year. I'll ask you this question.

What if Manny has 2 MVP type seasons? Better than we expected. More than 40 Hr's, more than 140 RbI's and with 325 BA. What do the Redsox do now (then)?

IF he does that, and I think he will some very good season though probably not quite that good, I think he still only gets a shortened deal. Theo hates giving up long term deals, especially with older players, so I would see something more like the 2 year deal with options for single year deals after that. I'd love to see Manny stay with the Red Sox for another 6 years if the price is right. He is one of those guys that I think can still be a very good hitter into his 40's. You can't tell me he won't be a better hitter when he's 46 then Julio Franco is (was? hold old is that guy?). The biggest issue is where do you put him in the field? The Red Sox can't have two DHs with Manny and Ortiz, and while Manny is fine defensively now I don't know how well he'll be playing the field when he's 40 (think of how Barry "The Roid" Bonds played the field the last few years and he used to be a Gold Glover).

Manny did say he wanted to end his career in Boston.  I just thought it would be a little sooner than 6 years from now.  I guess thats good for me because i bought a Manny jersey last year, so I guess I can still where it to there games a little longer than I expected.

If this all happens Manny fits the Bill to go up there with Doerr, Cronin, Yaz, Teddy Ballgame, and Pudge Fisk. Much respect to Jackie Robinson, but seriously I am talking about Sox here. Manny will make the hall, he will play more than 1/2 his games as a Sox, and he will Retire a Red Sox. Considering he's been my favourite Red Sox since the day the ink dried on that contract it couldn't make me happier to hear he wants to finish up in Beantown.

That beings said, I was against Mike Lowell getting a 4 year deal, so as to not get Sentimental about Manny as most fans are apt to doing. It would have to be at a significantly reduced rate after 2010. Although it sounds like he has taken car of his money, and will easily be able to take care of his family. So here is a hoping that Theo and Boras can work something out, and for the right Price Manny Ramirez can hang up his spike in Crimson and White.

I don't see Manny playing another 6 years in Boston however I do see him reaching 600 in a Red Sox uniform. He is currently at 490 so one hot month or so should get him to 500. either way, giving Manny 6 years to hit 110 homers is well below his season HR average. He should be able to eclipse that number within 4 providing he doesn't get a season long injury somewhere along the line.

I am very glad that Manny Ramirez wants to stay in Boston with the Red Sox!  I mean yes his defense is skeptical at best but you can't fault his offense!  I really hope he does get 600 with the Red Sox!

I watched Manny stare and pose after almost hitting a homerun once again.  What a classless person in the classiest sport in America.  When did the RedSox and their fans start only caring about winning and care absolutely nothing about character of their players.  Next thing I will see is a 10 year deal for Rev. Wright!

You've made 4 posts on the CBS boards, and every one of them is slamming Manny Ramirez.  We get it - you don't like him.  Now how about saying something else?  Or is this just a trolling account?

On the plus side, an Astros troll would at least make a change from SeanAvery's blind Yankicisms.  Though apart from the team allegiances you do sound rather like CBS's least effective troll.  Sockpuppet account?  Inquiring minds need to know.

I'd like to the Red Sox give Manny exactly what he wants.  He's worth the gamble.

Manny is definitely a character. It would be good to see him around for a few more years.  He ranks up there will Bill Lee as thecookiest guys to wear a Sox uniform.

Gee he sounds a lot like you clowns on this website.  You always make predictions, you always think you'd be better at GM.
