Why cant carl have the same attitude as the owner of the milwaukee bucks..

"Milwaukee is a permanent fixture in the NBA," Kohl said Wednesday after he announced that Larry Harris left as general manager. "I'm not in this business to make any annual profits. The value of the asset fortunately has appreciated over the years. On an annual basis, it's a money-losing proposition. I'm in it because I love the sport, I love the competition and I love winning."

Prolly cause Carl is old and thinks that he worked damn hard for his billions that he doesn't want to over-pay or waste his money. Hard for us to understand, but how many 80-90 year olds just give out money like it's going out of style? It's how that generation thinks of money. I'd love for Pohlad to think the way Kohl does, but I'm just greatful we still have a team after Selig tried to take it from us.

You know.....as morbid as this is to say the Twins might be better off when Carl kicks the bucket. And I hope its happens like a day prior to the new park opening. It would be quite fitting.

If you can't tell how I feel about the old coot from that...well I really do feel that he has held this team back and who is to say that if he didn't throw so money or approve some trades in 06 that we'd be sitting here discussing our world championship twins.

He's the richest man in baseball and he's holding on to that 3.1 billion like its going to do him good when he's 6ft under. What a SOB.

He is a true pimp however.

Yup it is his sons who are calling the most of the shots now, but there is a slim hope they will sell the team after he goes the way of Sidney Ponson.  My favorite move was him inducting himself into the Twins Hall of Fame.  What an ego.

And props to seth, Carl Pohlad did get start foreclosing farms in southern Minnesota and Iowa during the Great Depression.  After taking possession of the family farms, he proceeded to make a large pile of the money that he used to build his bank.

Congratulations Carl "Kick Em While They Are Down" Pohlad.

Everyone hates on Pohlad and I am one of them who wishes he would spend more money but he should get credit that he brought us two championships something no other owner in the twin cities has been able to do.  While he might be a tightwad he is arguably the best owner in minneapolis and that is sad.  The one thing they have going for them is the money they do spend is usually well spent.

Yeah, the Twins always get bang for their buck, but I think that is more a result of a good system not Pohlad's influence.  He basically just sets a budget and then steps back from my understanding.

For trivia's sake, anyone want to guess how Pohlad made his first pile?

I believe Pohlad started out by working for the banks, foreclosing peoples homes during the great depression.  I thought I read that somewhere, maybe I am full of nonsense.  Let me know.

Pohlad is cheap, and we all wish he would spend more money, but I don't blame anyone for making a company that loses money.  There would not be a Major League Baseball organization if the league were run by idiots that lost money.  The Twins organization is accountable for plenty of jobs, the community, etc.  I have no idea how much profit Pohlad makes per year, and I wish he would spend more on player salary (There is no reason our payroll should be below $85M this year) but I think people are pretty dumb if they expect someone to lose money.

He is a jerk for making the community pay for the new stadium...but all of sports are screwed up like that.  As a nation of sports fans, we gave commissioners of these organizations too much power.  It would be too easy for Pohlad to go look at a city that wants a baseball team, make them pay for the stadium, then move the team.

Unfortunately that is a part of our society.  Different cities and states want to offer an improved standard of living for their citizens, to attract more people to the area, more jobs, and to continue the cycle of everyones well being (and the politicians pockets as a result).  A huge part of that is having a professional sports team.  So it has become part of our society that the community leaders pay for something like a stadium, to attract a team, attract jobs, and contribute back to the community - if anything less then something for the citizens to do.

I hate Carl Pohlad as much as any Twins fan.  It is a joke that he may not take 1 year to lose money, in hopes of chasing a championship, to just once go on a spending spree like many other owners do.  But no one in professional sports is stupid, and no one is out to lose money, just as I'm sure the Bucks owners ultimate goal is to make a profit and stay in business.

So please don't just say "Carl Pohlad has lots of money so I expect him to lose money trying to overspend for a champtionship" (even though it isn't guaranteed - ask the Steinbrenners).
