Why does everyone think that the Pac-10 is so good this year?  After UCLA they are all overrated.

Best Wins out of Conference

Stanford Texas Tech

Wazzu Gonzaga or Baylor

USC Oklahoma

Arizona UNLV and Texas A&M

Oregon Kansas St

None of these wins could ever be considered elite.  I never thought ASU had a shot to get in since Oregon had a better resume and honesty Stanford should have been a 4 seed or lower.

This may be off your point, but you convinced me of one thing. If a Pac-10 team plays a Big 12 team in the tournament, I'm taking the Pac-10. Every one of those loses is a Big 12 team (except Gonzaga and UNLV, but the alternative loss is a big 12 team).

But here's the other question. Who is the better conference? Probably not the Big 12 based on your analysis. The Big East? Their RPI isn't so hot. The SEC, where Georgia won the conference tournament? The Big 10? The ACC? Neither got very many teams in the tournament.

The BigXII and Pac-10 played a conference challenge this season, but the post you looked at only listed Pac-10 wins, hunting for the reason Pac-10 reputation was so high this year. Include all the games between conference schools and BigXII had two more wins than Pac-10. Easy to be misled if you don't look beyond the obvious. Aside from Az, none of Pac-10 had much of a non-con schedule.

Thank you KU62. Many people i have talked with that say the pac-10 is better than the big XII, forgot that they had the Pac-10-Big XII challenge which big XII won.

I think it's funny that  one guy said they would pick the pac 10 over the big XII in the tourney. I, just going to bet that they have a line through their pick of of the KSU-USC game. Going to laught if A&M gets past UCLA. I mean A&M did beat Texas which beat UCLA at Pauley.

Big XII will never get enough respect and thats a shame.

The Big 12 is 5-1 in tourney while the Pac 10 is 3-3. That said, I felt all year the Pac 10 was over rated. I think by close of business the Big 12 will have smoked most conferences and established themselves has more than reputible.

Pac 10 is overrated but its not those teams' fault. And it is indeed a very good conference and among the best.

The P10 B12 challenge was favorable to B12 in wins, but that really doesn't tell you which is better. That was mostly about matchups.

I have felt that the three best conferences from top to bottom were the B12, ACC and P10 this year. I know the ACC was "down" but there were few bad losses for the conference collectively and there were some great non-conf wins collectively.

The Big 12 is really heavy at the top. Then some good middle teams, some average teams, then a couple of really bad teams. A typical conference. Their tops were two of the best in the nation though, and their middles were all better than a lot of people give them credit for.

Pac 10 was similar, just not as good at the top, about as bad at the bottom buit I felt their middle had the edge on the Big 12.

I have felt all year that the Big East was the most overrated conference in the land. 16 teams, and really other than Louisville and Georgetown (who again was overrated), not a lot of good middle teams. After that the drop off was pretty severe and the Big East's middle could not handle the middle of the Big 12 or the Pac 10.

Of course they are going to have a worse bottom because they just have numbers
