Wow, I really wish fans of other schools would stop coming to our boards trying to tell us how bad we are, etc...let us worry about that amongst ourselves please.
1. We haven't won squat - incorrect, in fact, since the year 2000, Iowa finished in the top ten (at # 8) three years in a row, something only 3 other schools have been able to do. Iowa also went to its first BCS game at the Orange Bowl and while we got crushed by USC, we also set a record for the longest kick return in the history of the game when we got the ball the first time. Our QB Brad Banks that year also finished 2nd in the Heisman voting. I am not sure when I have seen Bama in a BCS game, or getting any of their players into the Heisman voting since 2000.
The next year I believe, we beat LSU on the last play of the game in what most Iowa folks know as the greatest catch most of us have ever seen, when Drew Tate threw the ball to Warren Holloway straight down the middle and I believe it was Nick Saban who lost right before he jilted his team for the Dolphins. A pattern he continued when he came to Bama...
Finally, while we don't have the tradition that Alabama does, we do have a pretty good team for a state that must recruit out of state players to fill the roster. As you must realize since you live in Iowa, the state is not full of a large population nor can we play all year round like Texas and Florida.
2. Do we care about winning? Of course we do. That is why you will not find a ticket any time you walk up to the game on a home Saturday. I could turn the same thing around and ask you why does Alabama not care about winning in basketball or women's basketball or even wrestling? Last time I checked Iowa has 21 national championship trophies in the case and while they are all wrestling and one field hockey I believe, that is a heck of a lot more than Alabama.
And just to set the facts straight, we do have one national championship back in the 50's or 60's although it was not the AP. You have to be a student of history here, but long ago, there were about 5 or 6 national champions each year and I think we did it in 1958 is what I am thinking.
3. Iowa has no shot at winning the national championship in the next 5 years...LOL, we are not deluded enough to believe we ever have a shot at winning the national championship, but then I would contend that even with Saban and Alabama's fine recruiting class, that they have no shot at the title either as they will always play LSU, Florida, Arkansas and their friends in War Eagle land down the road. Then you have to win your championship game...good luck on that. Consider the slew of talent you have to recruit from and you should get a lot closer than us, that is if the coach actually stays at the school...just ask friends at Michigan State, LSU, and at the Miami Dolphins if you need to know.
As for me, I love my Hawkeyes, but I am not an idiot, can we win? Yes, we can. Should we be at 9 wins each year, yes, I believe we can recruit, coach and play at that level to win 9 games each year and I think they should this year or changes need to be made.
Keep this in mind my Alabama friend, just ask a lot of folks up in Iowa, we seem to have one of the worst offensive coordinators out there and we still end up winning games.
So now, that I have hopefully given you some answers to your incredibly ignorant thoughts and poll, please come back and visit, but do not try to tell us or question our team. We don't go to the Bama boards and rip on your elephant.
