Look I'm a Alabama fan and I live here in Iowa , I remeber Hayden Fry and I know (IE Nick Saban) a good coach can turn a team around , I also Iowa hasn't won squat in a long time and if memory is right never a national title . So should Iowa fire Coach Ferentz who seems to have peaked here and has no shot at winnig a national title in the next five seasons ? Do you actually not care about anything other then just another big ten title or a mediocre bowl win ?? Or do you want to win it all ??

You can't

Iowa has had some off-field issues that need to be addressed asap, which has led to some downer years.  Also, a couple of players haven't lived up to expectations on the field as well.  I think that reflects on the coach and on the players.  However, Ferentz has a good coaching staff and is rebuilding the team.  We will reign supreme one day under his guidance.  I believe that with all my hawkeye heart and soul.   I don't think there is a better coach out there anyway, and it would be a very poor call to let Kirk go at this stage.

PS - he stayed when he was taking us to BCS bowl games and shown great patience and love for our program and school.  I feel that we should extend the same to him.

Wow, I really wish fans of other schools would stop coming to our boards trying to tell us how bad we are, etc...let us worry about that amongst ourselves please.

1. We haven't won squat - incorrect, in fact, since the year 2000, Iowa finished in the top ten (at # 8) three years in a row, something only 3 other schools have been able to do.  Iowa also went to its first BCS game at the Orange Bowl and while we got crushed by USC, we also set a record for the longest kick return in the history of the game when we got the ball the first time.  Our QB Brad Banks that year also finished 2nd in the Heisman voting.  I am not sure when I have seen Bama in a BCS game, or getting any of their players into the Heisman voting since 2000.

The next year I believe, we beat LSU on the last play of the game in what most Iowa folks know as the greatest catch most of us have ever seen, when Drew Tate threw the ball to Warren Holloway straight down the middle and I believe it was Nick Saban who lost right before he jilted his team for the Dolphins.  A pattern he continued when he came to Bama...

Finally, while we don't have the tradition that Alabama does, we do have a pretty good team for a state that must recruit out of state players to fill the roster.  As you must realize since you live in Iowa, the state is not full of a large population nor can we play all year round like Texas and Florida.

2. Do we care about winning?  Of course we do.  That is why you will not find a ticket any time you walk up to the game on a home Saturday.  I could turn the same thing around and ask you why does Alabama not care about winning in basketball or women's basketball or even wrestling?  Last time I checked Iowa has 21 national championship trophies in the case and while they are all wrestling and one field hockey I believe, that is a heck of a lot more than Alabama.

And just to set the facts straight, we do have one national championship back in the 50's or 60's although it was not the AP.  You have to be a student of history here, but long ago, there were about 5 or 6 national champions each year and I think we did it in 1958 is what I am thinking.

3. Iowa has no shot at winning the national championship in the next 5 years...LOL, we are not deluded enough to believe we ever have a shot at winning the national championship, but then I would contend that even with Saban and Alabama's fine recruiting class, that they have no shot at the title either as they will always play LSU, Florida, Arkansas and their friends in War Eagle land down the road.  Then you have to win your championship game...good luck on that.  Consider the slew of talent you have to recruit from and you should get a lot closer than us, that is if the coach actually stays at the school...just ask friends at Michigan State, LSU, and at the Miami Dolphins if you need to know.

As for me, I love my Hawkeyes, but I am not an idiot, can we win?  Yes, we can.  Should we be at 9 wins each year, yes, I believe we can recruit, coach and play at that level to win 9 games each year and I think they should this year or changes need to be made.

Keep this in mind my Alabama friend, just ask a lot of folks up in Iowa, we seem to have one of the worst offensive coordinators out there and we still end up winning games.

So now, that I have hopefully given you some answers to your incredibly ignorant thoughts and poll, please come back and visit, but do not try to tell us or question our team.  We don't go to the Bama boards and rip on your elephant.

You make great points , But let me ask you aside from your reassurgence in wrestling what has Iowa done lately ? Your basketball is rising again but has sucked for ten years ( Hey I hate Alford too. ) Wrestling has finaly turned around yes , Womens basketball ???? Are you serious ? Our mens basketball team has had two inury years but has been close to contention and is bringing in a top ten class , Our football team has the top rcruiting class with the top player in Julio Jones .  And as far as ripping elephants that what you Iowa liberals do .

Dude you are killing me...Define lately?  If you mean last year, ok, if you mean since 2000, think I answered you up there...Let me ask, what has Alabama done lately?  They were what, 6-6 last year and got to a bowl?  That ain't much better than what we did the year before and but for a couple interesting calls we beat Texas in the Alamo Bowl the year after they played in the National Championship game (this was 2006 tho)

And yeah, you have an alleged top recruiting class, but depends on who you look at...those kids have to make it to the field first then win games to be considered a success.  Is it justification to be excited...yeah, but nothing is in the win column yet.

Nothing wrong with womens bball, just look north of you to the state of Tennessee and see what women's bball means.

Don't get me wrong, I don't dislike Bama, just that you are one of many who seem to come to the Iowa board to rip on our team...

Why shouldn't we? An Elephant is a stipid mascot! Your STUPID!

Our football team has the top rcruiting class with the top player in Julio Jones .

A recruiting class should not be rated until their senior year! Recruiting classes are based on POTENTIAL! I would rather be rated on my success on the field! Quit patting yourself on the back for your recruiting class, you don't get a trophy for recruiting classes! We were National Recruiting Champions! OH YEAH! Got a banner hanging in the stadum for that one! We only won 6 games, but were #1 in recruiting!

I regret to inform you that you have failed to qualify to post on the Hawkeye message board. This board requires an IQ of 32 or higher, and it has come to our attention that you don't meet the criteria. I appologize for the inconvenience, however, there are other boards out there with lower academic standards that would be happy to allow you to post. Alabama has fairly low requirements and standards, I would suggest you try posting there for a while. Their board has very similar standards and requirements as their athletics program. Once again sorry for the inconvenience, and enjoy your time on the Crimson Tide message board!

Sincerely,
