So what are people's thoughts on the Jackets for 2008?
I think we will struggle to get to our traditional 7 wins that we seem to always have under Gailey. Just feel like there is too much change to come out winning the tough games.
Hey guys! I'm the Georgia fan that everybody hates here. Well here's my outlook for '08. (Numbers are percents)
Jacksonville St. 100 .........Can't lose this game
Boston College 50 loss ........good team and a away game
Virginia Tech 40 loss...............this team is an awesome team
Mississippi St. 50...................... young SEC team thats gonna get better
Duke 100 win............................. 0-12 team. not gonna get better
Gardner Webb 100 win............ second college team. no way loss
Clemson 40 loss......................even though a win last year, its an away game
Virginia 50.................................. close call and its a home game
Florida St. 70 win...................... this team needs help with crime
North Carolina 75 win..................... even though it was close last year, they can't do much
Miami 80 win.................................... 5-7 in '07, so a win is probable
Georgia 80 loss.............................. awesome team.seven years, so might as well count eight
Not sure what your numbers represent. Looking at UGAg and Clemson/VT I can't decide if the 80 loss/40 loss is the probability of your prediction, in which case you are actually predicting VT and Clemson as wins.
Either way I think you are off on your predictions. With a new system coming on both sides of the ball I think we have little chance at all of winning our early in conference games.
I see it as:
Jack St - Should be easy win and very helpful in getting kinks ironed out in live play.
BC - Pretty much certain loss. Unless Johnson can meld this team a hell of a lot faster than I think is possible, there is no way we can beat the Eagles in game 2.
VT - See above.
Miss St. - Best chance for a win against a bowl team in the first half of the season. I give us about a 65-70% chance of winning.
Duke - We should win, lets see how the Dukies do under Cutcliffe
GW - Win
Clemson - If Davis and Spiller are healthy we lose, if they are out we have a chance to win.
UVA - If this was on the road no way in hell, since it is homecoming 50-50.
FSU - I think the Noles will be back this year, we continue our streak of losing to the Noles
UNC - I think this is the year Butch has the Heels competitive, we lose on the road.
Miami - I think we lose, this team will have the speed to stop the triple option
UGAg - The final win in the 8 game streak.
I think that it will take coach johnson a year or two to get us back over the 7 win slump we have been in over the year. He was very successful at Navy, but I don't know if that kind of offense will work here at GT.
I think we have the potential to win 8 or 9 games. We have a double option quarterback that has the potential to become really good. We also have a really good running back with dwyer and a good recieving core. Thomas will be good as the lone wide reciever on the field because of his speed and ability to catch the ball. I think the team will be prety good all in all, and could make it to the acc championship game based on how paul johnson does this offseason. They don't have that hard of schedule: two division two schools, a boston college team that has lost a lot, young miami and florida state teams. I think we could be pretty good this season.
I'm not a fan and don't have a clue as to the talent or type of talent at GT but all Jacket fans should be thrilled to have this new coach and what he brings. There has been questions about whether or not the triple option can still be an effective offense, I don't know but I will b e watching Georgia Tech as much as I can to find out. He put a pretty good team on the field at Navy with limited recources and It wasn't that long ago Air Force had a strong triple option, remember a few years ago they almost upset Tennesee becuse they ran it correctly and the triple option is a nightmare to defend.
Me being a Husker fan, I really miss the option and was kinda hoping to get Johnson as the next HC, but I won't complain, I think Pelini will do just fine.
Good luck in 08' Maybe we'll see ya in a bowl game ?
If the scrimmage this past Saturday was any indication (14 fumbles by the offense), then it could be a long year. However, its still early and we should be fine by the start of the season. Not ready to give my season predictions yet. Still too much to be decided (depth chart, freshmen playing, etc)
I have to agree. I don't think the scrimage went well at all with all the fumbles. But we must get used to them to an extent. This is the option offense. An offense where funmbles are prone to happen. I can't blame Nesbitt or Booker to have a few in the first scrimmage. I mean its a new system and pitching the ball can be tough. But we will get it fixed. I will give an assesment after the final scrimmage coming up! Go Jackets!
I don't understand why nobody on the first few posts shows any kind of support at all for Tech. I mean why the hell are yall predicting such a terrible season. All ya'll do is seem like the typical Tech fan that expects nothing out of Tech and just complains about how bad we might be. I mean come on Tech fans support our team a little bit. I agree with ramblinwreck completely in the fact that I don't think were gona be that bad this year. I could def see Paul Johnson starting something very special at Tech and I think it could easily start this year. Our offense is going to throw a lot of teams off and I think that Tech is going to just be a much tougher team this year. Come on guys can we for once rally around Tech and hope for a good season instead of saying how crappy we are gona be.
No we just understand the team. There is huge potential. Possible Top 10 finish potential. Its just going to depend on how the players grasp the new system and how the defense performs after losing 2 starting linebackers and a DE. The DB's dont really count cause they sucked to begin with last year. There is also the lack of WR and Choice's departure. We just lost so much from the players we had last season to this season.
yea we did lose a lot, but looks what replaces them:
Dwyer replaces choice: Dwyer has great speed and elusiveness. He broke a few long ones last year, i think he had three touchdowns in a game. He isnt afraid to run between the tackles and can still bounce outside.
I don't know what your talking about with a lack of wide recievers: demarius "baby face" thomas, corey earls, greg smith, and james johnson
Devensive line: michael johnson fills him: have you every seen that guy: he's tall, built, and fast. Not to mention he has a huge vertical: he blocked two field goals last year, and had a few sacks when fillin in.
As for the DB's, yea they were not good last year, but they were young. they'll be better.
