as far as Iraq goes, I want us to win...plain and simple...but the definition of "win" keeps changing...that  is the problem with Iraq, IMO.

however, we live in a democracy, and if the majority (50% +1) of people want us out, then I accept that as part of being an American...

just because I don't support the Iraq position, does not make me a liberal.

I agree 100%

you are correct, however, I wasn't speaking of polls...democracy doesn't come from a telephone poll....it comes from a voting booth.

I'm a veteran and have son in the Army over in Iraq.  My wife and I worry day and night the dangers that he faces.  The thing that upsets me, is, are we fighting this war for nothing.  That region has never been stable.  If you look at the history they will always go back to a dictator.  It takes a dictator to keep those crazy sects behave.  When the soldiers leave, I fear it will be as if no change ever  happen. The Iraqi soldiers can't even be trusted.  They don't even step up.  The other thing that upsets me, is, our government can send billions to Iraq, but are hesitant about mass producing those new vehicles that are road side bomb proof.  The humvees are a pathetic joke and death trap.  I pray my son comes home safe, and he needs to know like all soldiers that we support  them, regardless.  You just don't know what a uneasy feeling you get when you see a government  car drive by your house, hoping they  don't  stop in front of your house with bad news.

First, my best wishes to your son for a safe return home.

I've been posting alot on this thread. I hope you comeback & read this reply. I scored a pretty good assignment working at a DoD port in Charleston, SC after 2 deployments to Iraq in less than 3 years. One of our top priorities is the vehicle your talking about which is called the MRAP. We ship dozens of these out weekly. The only other thing that has priority over the MRAP's is a deploying units equipment. Were moving them as fast as we can.

I & one other NCO work w/ some of the finest DoD civilians I've ever worked w/ in the military. They completely understand the importance of getting these veh's out ASAP. When they hear some of the stories I have as well as what they read in classified material...it hits them close to home & they press harder to get these veh's out of here. We've had the SecDef here, countless Senators & Congressman & numerous Generals checking on us to ensure quick movement of these MRAP's. In the logistics world...there is no higher priority right now.

Just thought I'd shoot you this to maybe bring a little sense of security while your son is over there. I hope the powers that be on the other side are getting them shipped to who needs them as fast as were getting them out. Unfortunately were not privy to those numbers so I have no clue. I know if I have to go back...I want to be in one of these.
