I recently got into an argument with a fellow Tiger fan and alumni memeber. We were just rehashing some of the games during the season and he mentioned the Tulane debacle. I said it turned out ok. I said the worst thing to come out of that game was the uniform fiasco. Well, I don't know if it was the barley or the hops, but he went off on me saying in essecence, "They were great unis". My opinion is that tradition rich schools don't go "Gimmick" with their unis. no matter what the cause. That is something the old Div.IAA schools did to stir up interest and sell gear. Put a commemorative patch on the jersey a commemorative sticker on the back of the helmet auction those off for the cause and that's it. He vehemently disagreed. Said he loved the new look and wanted to see it again. What do you guys think?

Couldent stand the uni's, Dont F with the tradition. Those white helmets are gonna cost us a game sooner or later.
So in recap.
Dont F with the traditional uni's. If Nike want to help raise mone for Katrina fund then slap a nice looking patch on the normal uni and have it signed by the player wearing it at the end of the game.
Thats just how I feel about it. I hate those white helmets.

The unis sucked. I was at the game and I was hoping to see a uniform change at half because of the poor play of the Tigers. No such luck but the tigers won and put Tulane to rest and hopefully the uniforms with them.

ntarver, From an asthectics point they weren't the worst I've seen (see any combination of Oregon or those orange VaTech things). My concern was more from a tradition stand point. It jus t feels bush league. The tradition rich programs say: " This is who we are. This is what we wear." You will not see stuff like that at Bama, Penn State, USC, Michigan, Texas, etc. If you are a tradition rich school you don't do gimmick. Just one middle aged fat guy's opinion.

Not because it bashing or put some one down. It was because it was very informative and the facts I felt were spot on. You chose the right teams to use as examples the right words were used todefine how you felt....spot on man...great post..just hought I should tell ya.

I agree, I like to stick with tradition. I like our uniforms and helmets just like they are, thank you. But Libby forgot to mention Notre Dame. I seem to remember several years ago (when they were decent) them running out on the field with green jerseys. I forget the reason why they did this, something to do with Irish I suppose. But it did seem to fire up the team, and the fans.

First let me say I COME IN PEACE ! I agree that tradition rich schools should leave their uniforms alone , keep them " modern " but stick to the root of the uniform . I look at a uniform as an identity and the pride of your fan base , alum , history , ect.. Very good topic though because it sure seems there is alot of teams out there that seem to be searching for their (identity) uniform .

Nike or Rebok come along once a year and hands them a new uni to wear to see if it well taken by the fanss.. every once in a while you will get a team like Oregon or Miami that will wear them several times a year. This of course means nike hase another uni they can sell and market.
The one they did for the LSU game was supposed to bee 100% fundraiser and I sure hope it was. Those uni's were to auctioned offf and all money was to go to the Katrina Fund. I know it was a good cause but I swear those GD white helmets feel like they are cursed to me. thats twice in a row now that the Tigers have played like sh!t in them.

I understand what you guys are saying about tradition and usually i am on your side on this one, but I feel this is a special case. I don't know how many other people lost a house in Katrina here, but to me as a LSU fan liked it. I actually bought my finacee one. I personally think they should keep the unis for the Tulane game only in the years it is in the Dome.

Oh I understood the significance. As an Louisiana expatriot I feel for the incredible loss. I just think a patch and a sticker and you could have raised the same money if not more in the auctions and sales of the game gear. Thanks for weighing in gents. And the kind words Cajuntide.

I am big on uniforms and tradition. So much so, that when I want to beat my wife down I talk about a team's great uniform. Nothing chases her from the room faster.
Normally, I land on the side of the traditional powers just shouldn't mess with their uniform; however, understanding the cause involved with this case I am willing to make an exception. Hopefully, mother nature cooperates and this will be a one time event,

Alright I agree the unis really blow. I mean do we really need the change, and what is with Hester wearing the White Helmet during the Senior Bowl. Others may have been wearing it also but he was the only tiger I saw during the 5 minutes that I watched the game. Correct me if I am wrong but thaey have worn these helmets a few times in the last couple of years and everytime its a stinker of a game for us. BURN THEM AND LET THEM AND LETS NOT DIG THEM BACK UP!!!!
