Last season the Dragons were great. We beat some great teams, and on national television. I know we lost some good players in Chaz and Basheer, but I had hoped that Elegar would continue his great form from last season, if not be better.

Unfortunately, nobody has been able to fill Crawford's position at Forward, and nobody has been able to be as good a guard as Basheer Mason. Tramayne Hawthorne had a good game against Georgia State, but has been awful at scoring in the previous games.

So this season can probably be written off, and for next season, only two seniors will leave - Elegar and Oveneke. So does that mean this group will play better as a team or continue with the dismal season?

I think you also forget that we lost D. Mejia's three point shooting ability. The lack of a strong inside presence other than Elegar is killing us. Frank is big, but not big enough to bang down low by himself even in this mid-major conference. Also our simplistic offence, in which one screen is set, then the pass is always moved to the corner or back to the top of the key, will not work, because our guard are not effective penetration zones, and they shooting is not sufficient.

Until we get a quality big man, we will continue to have these troubles. Losing Elegar and Oveneke are the worst possible thing to happen to our team in this state.

Whoever recruits for Drexel needs to find the best big man in the country. The recruiters need to stop only getting players from Philly, NYC, and Jersey.

Can't believe I forgot Mejia's departure. Its like missing the thing thats right in front of you. But you're absolutely right - his departure is hurting us just as bad.

Thanks for the post, especially the strategy part. Elegar needs partners, and he's not getting any. You're spot on about the need for a big guy.

You know, I do hope they realize that recruiting needs to go beyond the tristate area. I've always noticed it, but I suppose with the relative success of the last two seasons, it really wasn't a concern for anybody.

Drexel lost again, and now they're 2-8 in the conference, and thats just unbelievable.

I see that they lost, I can't believe they lost again, we are worst in conference now. I did a little research on their scouting.

They have verbal commitments from three young athletes. Two of them are listed as power forwards, but they are 6'6" 210, and 6'5" 200. Based on my size, and I'm 6'1" 200, they are not big at all, they have to get bigger, because that will not help us, with Formbor and Tribbett's shotty defense. Maybe Neissler will be able to carry some of the work load.

We also got the 37th best guard out of high school, if that is helps us any. I see us having to run a four guard, one big man set, similar to the 05-06 Nova wildcats. But that would mean we have to be able to run the other team out of the gym everytime.

I've always felt that Drexel doesn't really spend a lot of effort in getting a big man. We need a big guy at the center and for some reason, we've never really had somebody exceptional there.

Yeah, I see what you are saying about the 4 guards, one big man setup that worked great for Nova, but I am not too sure if it will be good for us. Lets see what happens about next season. Verbal commitments are good, but they're still verbal. I am just waiting for this horrible season to get over.
