Although the Cyclones had somewhat of a disappointing season, Chizik is going to be a great coach.
I see Iowa State going 6-6 next year, getting in a bowl game and moving forward from there. I can see an 8-4 season in a couple of years and becoming a consistant 8-4, 9-3 team over the next few years.
With teams like Kansas, Colorado and Mizzou on the rise, Iowa State is a team that can put the Big 12 North on the map again. The Big 12 North needs to have Iowa State and Nebraska good to get the respect they deserve from the South.
I am going to have to disagree with you. I am an Iowa State student, and I do not like Chizik one bit. He is the worst recruiter in the world, and there is no way we're going to do well in the Big 12 North with the way that Chizik recruits. This guy needs to leave Iowa State because he is not fit to be a head coach. He needs to stick to his job as a defensive coordinator and leave the recruiting and major decisions to other people.
Have you actually taken time to consider what you just said?

First of all, Chizek hasn't been at ISU long enough to be graded on his recruiting, on what are you basing this statement?
Furthermore, Chizek put together some nice wins late in the season, showing great growth in this team over the course of the season. Yes they got hammered by Kansas, but that was a 12-1 Kansas, not your daddy's Kansas!
Last, but certainly not least, Chizek was one of the most sought after coordinators when Iowa State landed him, a major score for the Cyclones! He has to have time to bring in players who fit his scheme!
I personally am a Hawkeye fan, but I am very aware of what Chizek is building in Ames, very respectful as well!
As a Cyclone fan, you should get behind your coach, and your team! Give him a chance, he's going to do great things for that program if you let him!
Good Luck Cyclones (except of course when you play Iowa)
What are you doing? I think I put you over my knee a year ago for bashing McDermott in his first season as head coach, didn't I?
Do you even think before you start pecking away at that keyboard? I don't think you do!
Why, as an ISU student, are you so quick to bash your newly hired coaches? Last year I believe you were asking if McDermott was to blame for your lousy basketball season. This after he had inherited a team who lost 2 players to the NBA draft (early entry), and riddled with academic scandal! Now you are bashing your new football coach for being a poor recruiter? He didn't recruit these kids son! He is working with McCarneys players! He needs a couple years to recruit kids who fit into his scheme!
How in the he11 did you get to be an 89 spewing this kind of ignorance about your own team? CBS has got to do something with this rating system!
I don't understand fans like you. If the coach doesn't do well in his first year he needs to be fired? Like Redbird said he's working with the fired coach's players. You cannot turn a program around in one year.
We've got a basketball coach who took a Mid-Major to the NCAA 3 times. Give him time to recruit his kind of players and implement his system. We're going to be fine.
Chizik just finished his first full recruiting class. We haven't even seen these guys play and you're ready to give him the boot? Huh? He's recruited 9 guys from Florida and 8 from Texas. Does that mean they're good players? No, but establishing a recruiting pipeline to these 2 states is a great move. If you're really honest you've got to admit it has to be tough to sell a kid on a cold weather school when you grow up in Texas or Florida. Chizik wasn't one of the most sought after coaches because he doesn't know what he's doing.
Let's see what happens over the next 4 or 5 years. I think all Clone fans are looking forward to the future with 2 solid coaches like McDermott and Chizik.
Getting OU and Texas off the schedule can only help - ISU needs to take advantage of that next 2 years - Chizik has his work cut out for him, recruiting to Ames can't be an easy job - is there another Davis brother ?
Yee of little faith. Chizik is a great coach and knows what it takes to recruit, regardless of your recruiting experience. He needs to establish a baseline to recruit in the warm weather states. Speed is a necessity, and lets face it, Iowa and other midwest states do not breed speed. Defense is first priority, then special teams, then offense. The offense just needs to manage the game for now. Then we can go into high gear later.
