Forget all these previous complaints.. everyone has failed to mention the most pathetic aspect of it all: Kevin Youkillis at first?!?!?! Is that some sort of joke? Throughout all of the American League, Kevin Youkillis has been chosen as the best first baseman? What happened to Miguel Cabrera and Justin Morneau? Picking Kevin Youkillis is the epitome of horrible.
Are you serious? It is debatable whether to choose Justin Morneau or Kevin Youkilis at first, but you want to choose Miguel Cabrera? Why? Youkilis is the best defensively (he's had one error in the last 2 years, I believe) and is better than Cabrera in almost every statistical category (ex. Youkilis OPS: .910, Cabrera OPS: .823, Morneau OPS: .860, you can look up the rest). The only category where Cabrera matches Youkilis is in HR, where they are equal at 13 (just ahead of Morneau at 12). Perhaps you are basing your opinion on how well Cabrera performed in Florida, because he hasn't been that great for the Tigers. Youk is a solid selection, but I could not argue against Morneau either.
Manny Ramirez in left? His season hasn't been that great and his fielding is atrocious, but who else is blowing away the competition in the AL? Carl Crawford has had better years, but the Rays are doing so well, maybe I select him. Carlos Quentin has great numbers and the White Sox are having a very nice season as well.
Dustin Pedroia at second? I like Dusty, and he is having an excellent year, but I would have to pick Ian Kinsler (Rangers) at second. His numbers are simply better.
David Ortiz at DH? He hasn't played much this year. I think the voters need to consult the DL before voting.
So of the Red Sox players voted into the All-Star game, you decided to complain about the most deserving one. A joke? No, the joke would be choosing Cabrera over Youkilis or Morneau.
