Actually . . . As Baltimore MUST have at least one representative at the All-Star game, Sherrill is more than likely the logical choice to go . . .

Check out the stats of Papelbon, Nathan, and especially Rivera. Things like OBP against, ERA, and Slugging Pct against. Then maybe you will understand why those three belong and not Sherrill. Saves are team determined opportunities. Rivera hasn't blown

a save this year. And both the others are better than Sherrill in that regard. And I am a long time Orioles fan.

Griffey's vote is the fans giving credit to his career. All kinds of outstanding players had been voted in the all-star game at the end of their careers with much less deserving stats than others. Cal Ripken Jr. was voted on the team in 2001 with a below average year (not just for him) and ended up winning the all-star game MVP. Getting voted in is just a reward that these great players get past their prime and it has been that way for years.

I'm getting where I don't even care that there are always 3 Yankees and 3 Red Sox in the starting All Star lineup, no matter who is having better years.  It's Evil Empire I, and Son of Evil Empire.  Too many fans across the nation that won't watch or get to see any other player not in pinstripes or red sox.

What I mind is when there are 6 of em in the starting lineup, and the Sox or Yankee mangers pick 3 or 4 of their own for the reserves.  Next thing you know, you have 12 players from 2 teams, they all get to play, and the others sit on the bench.  I get enough of the Sox and the Yankees during the regular season, now you gotta go and ruin my All Star game?

I'd put a limit on how many players from one team can be represented.  That way, some of the other teams (and yes, there are 12 other teams in the AL) could have more than their one token player who probably won't even see the field.

Forget all these previous complaints.. everyone has failed to mention the most pathetic aspect of it all: Kevin Youkillis at first?!?!?! Is that some sort of joke? Throughout all of the American League, Kevin Youkillis has been chosen as the best first baseman? What happened to Miguel Cabrera and Justin Morneau? Picking Kevin Youkillis is the epitome of horrible.

Are you serious?  It is debatable whether to choose Justin Morneau or Kevin Youkilis at first, but you want to choose Miguel Cabrera?  Why?  Youkilis is the best defensively (he's had one error in the last 2 years, I believe) and is better than Cabrera in almost every statistical category (ex. Youkilis OPS: .910, Cabrera OPS: .823, Morneau OPS: .860, you can look up the rest).  The only category where Cabrera matches Youkilis is in HR, where they are equal at 13 (just ahead of Morneau at 12).  Perhaps you are basing your opinion on how well Cabrera performed in Florida, because he hasn't been that great for the Tigers.  Youk is a solid selection, but I could not argue against Morneau either.

Manny Ramirez in left?  His season hasn't been that great and his fielding is atrocious, but who else is blowing away the competition in the AL?  Carl Crawford has had better years, but the Rays are doing so well, maybe I select him.  Carlos Quentin has great numbers and the White Sox are having a very nice season as well.

Dustin Pedroia at second?  I like Dusty, and he is having an excellent year, but I would have to pick Ian Kinsler (Rangers) at second.  His numbers are simply better.

David Ortiz at DH?  He hasn't played much this year.  I think the voters need to consult the DL before voting.

So of the Red Sox players voted into the All-Star game, you decided to complain about the most deserving one.  A joke?  No, the joke would be choosing Cabrera over Youkilis or Morneau.
