Haloti Ngata was listed as #2 breakout player in the NFL this season, if he hasn't boke out yet then he will be spectacular this season, in Pete Prisco's Breakout 30 article.  Which had me thinking with Cam Cameron coming to Baltimore as the new Offensive Coordinator, things should look a lot different then they did under the offensive genius, Brian Billick's game plan.  So which of the Ravens WR should be the best this year?

  1. #85 Derrick Mason - 12 year vet that had 103 catches last season averaging 10.6 yards per catch and 5 TD's.
  2. #89 Mark Clayton - Entering his 4th year with the team, last year was suppose to be his breakout year, but QB injuries and a young O-line seemed to have put that off.  He didn't have as many catches (48) as #85, but did manage to have a better average yards per catch (11.1) and no TD's
  3. #87 Demetrius Williams - Entering his 3rd year, which most say should be the breakout year for WR's, he has always been considered the deep threat.  He had fewer still catches (20) than #89 with even more average yards per catch (14.5) and still no TD's
  4. #17 Matt Willis - Last year was his first year and he had only one catch for eleven yards and still no TD's
  5. #16 Yamon Figurs - Also a second year guy, usually used in the return game, but has one catch for 36 yards and has two TD's, although both were on special teams.

Or could it be one of the numbered, or as of yet unnumbered, rookies?

  1. #12 Ernie Wheelwright out of Minnesota
  2. #15 Patrick Carter out of Louisville
  3. Kerry Reed out of Michigan State
  4. Justin Harper out of Virginia Tech
  5. Marcus Smith out of New Mexico

Change the question from Wide Receiver to Receiver. Now the answer is Todd Heap. Its pretty obvious. He has been our leading receiver (any time he is not injured that is), anyone else will always be second behind him. With Cam Cameron coming in, who loves TEs (like Antonio Gates), and Cam already stating how great he thought Heap was even before joining the Ravens, its pretty obvious the answer is H E A PPP! Mark Clayton and Mason should split receptions behind Heap.

Yes I should have made it reciever I just didn't think it would fit in the subject.

I think it will be Mark Clayton just because last year was suppoes to be his breakout season, and with the loss of JO for most of the season a very young O-line that seemed to have jelled by the end of the season with the changing at QB during the season.  Plus with CC making the offensive play calls I think we should see the O take atleast one big step forward.

Well, to put my two cents in.  I'll remind you guys that Tomlinson had more catches than Gates so if it ain't Heap than it might be McGahee or Rice.  Just a thought to chew on.  I do agree that the offense should be better and Cam does have a way of doing things, but he seems better at riding the hot hand so this offense might be different than what any of us expect. I really do think that the offense will look much different at the end of the year than it does in the begining so it might take a whole season to answer this one guys.

Good point about McGahee there.

I expected Clayton to have a breakout season with McNair at QB last season, but like its been stated, the inexperience of the OL and JOs injury really hurt our passing game, the QB(s) didn't even have time to turn his head after snap before he was beat down.

I would say who our leading reciever is really depends on how the OL protects this coming season. IMO Mark Clayton is in fact a first round pick caliber player, he just happened to be drafted to the Ravens offense and has never had the opportunity to shine. But we have seen flashes of greatness from time to time and even when he doesn't get the ball because the QB is under pressure, i've still seen him run his routes pretty well and beat defenders with his insane speed. Only problem is that the QB is under pressure before he can even look in clayton's direction.
