This tragedy has screwed the U.S. for the 200 meters, and now Tyson is quetionable to even compete in the Olympics. It is a shame to see him go down, especially since he was starting to reach his peak for the season. He was running incredible times for the 100 and would have likely sealed a spot in the 200 at trials had this injury not occurred. Other United States 200 runners are iffy. Wallace Spearmon is the worst turn runner out of all the 200 runners, but he speeds up in the last 80 meters, usually when the race is far out of reach for him to get the lead back. Maybe Walter Dix from Florida State, an NCAA champion in the 200, can compete with Usain Bolt. Hopefully Gay can heal as soon as possible and help the U.S. win some gold medals.

It's no big deal. If it was at the beginning of the trials than it'd be a huge deal.

He'll still do the 100 and do the 4x100 and 4x200, it'd be nice if he was on the 200 but I have plenty of faith in Walter Dix and wouldn't be surprised if Spearmon took the trials title.

I have always felt like the rule that says you have to finish in the top 3 to make the Olympic squad, is garbage.  It has screwed us in the past, and now it's screwing Tyson Gay.  He's the current WORLD CHAMPION, and he can't even compete in the Olympics because of that moronic rule? Rediculous....simply rediculous.  It's time for USOC to review that idiotic rule and make things right.

I wouldn't mind to see a Top 2 get in automatically, and the 3rd spot be decided by a board.

Barring injury, they would give the 3rd place winner the last spot. But, in the event that a defending champ can't defend due to injury, it'd be nice if they could at least defend.

If someone gets injured that qualifies in the 200, I wonder if they go to the 4th runner or if someone is picked?

what do you mean other US 200 runners are iffy??
the 200 is our deepest event...

wallace spearmon has run 19.65
xavier carter has run 19.63
walter dix has run 19.69

nobody else in the world running now has run faster than 19.75.

i think well be fine without gay.
