I think the way Renteria left (of his own free will) seemed to anger more fans than Edmonds' scenario (Cubs uniform withstanding), and Renteria still got a standing O.

Edgar Rentaria and Mike Matheny were BOTH offered 1 year contracts after the 2004 World Series.  These 1 year deals were a slap in the face to both players, who went on to get higher paid contracts elsewhere, while the Cardinals get David Ectstein for cheaper and Yadier Molina who was cheaper.  Both Matheny and Rentaria never wanted to leave St. Louis and the cardinals just blew them off because they new they would not come back and take the "joke" offer.  Both were upset, however both never wanted to leave St. Louis.

that's the truth

No I believe Renteria was offered a four year deal for something like one or two mil less a year than he signed with Boston for.  That was lame but it worked out we got our World Series MVP out of it.  I don't know about Matheny but he knew he was on the way out and didn't need to hold back Molina.  I don't understand people wanting to turn this into a hate Edmonds affair.  He hasn't done anything wrong except collect a paycheck, maybe from our rival but so what, where did Dizzy Dean and Rogers Hornsby go when they left STL.  He's always a Cardinal to me, why should we want to stoop so low as to take this rivalry to the levels of the Red Sox-Yankees, I shudder to think about it.

Get real man

I am one heck of a lot more real than you are dude. Look, Edmonds made some sarcastic comments directed towards the Cards/Tony La Russa that he should have kept to himself. As far as this b/s about who gave up on who goes, the Cards didn't give up on Edmonds:

"If I had been there, somebody would have had to go," Edmonds said. "I think it's great that it's working out for everybody.

And if he were to to still be here, we possibly if not likely would not be in second place. Funny thing is, I remember everybody saying after last year that Edmonds was all washed up, had nothing left in the tank. Yet the Cards - even though they wanted to trade him to the White  Sox - did what? They acknowledged Jimmy's request to be dealt to a southern California team which ended up being the Padres. And speaking of the Padres, they too saw saw the real Jim Edmoinds when he could only hit less than his weight.  If Edmonds were to be playing anywhere else, like I said before, his stats would be showing more of his real age. Do you johnclay3 still wish to say that the Cards gave up on Jimmy  Ballgame?

So, you're saying that he should be loyal to the cards, but you dont?

WOW. Talk about having the blinders on. Can you see anything at all with those thick blinders chump? Yes, even I should be loyal to the very team that I claim to be my favorite. And IF you were to take off those ugly damn blinders you could actually see that I'm being more loyal to the Cards than Edmonds is.

Please refrain from the 5 year old argument here that "he started it"

Ok, I will refrain. I will say instead that this whole mess got started when he did the one thing he should not have done if he were to be as loyal to the Cards as he claims to be and sign on as a Cub. You need to get real dude. Like the only team out there for him to sign on with was the Cubs? He had numerous others that he could have signed on with. But did he? No. Instead he singled out the Cubs so he could get back at the Cards for trading him. Or for so-called "giving up" on him. Oh, please excuse me for only telling the real truth as is.

And one more thing. Not only is Edmonds saying sarcastic things about the very club he claims to be loyal to, but he's also being a hypocrite. Correct me IF I am wrong but didn't Jimmy say when he first inked his deal with the Cubs that he called the Cubs to "voluntarily" play for them? But yet in yesterdays article by Rick Hummel, Edmonds was quoted as saying "These people called me." ? Edmonds thinks he can sweet talk the Cards fans into believing anything he says and they will continue to adore him because of what he accomplished here. Well, not me. Either he was lying then or he was lying to the "Commish" Rick Hummel.

Northsiders 2123, nice try. But you're gonna have to do a lot better than that to get me convinced that I'm wrong and you are right.

Go Cards!

No I believe Renteria was offered a four year deal for something like one or two mil less a year than he signed with Boston for.  That was lame but it worked out we got our World Series MVP out of it.

I was in the golf cart at the Bluffs playing golf with Albert Pujols when Renteria called him and was pissed, bitching in spanish about how the Cardinals offered him a joke contract.  Albert then told me they did the same thing to Matheny.  1 Year deals that they knew they would turn down.  Yes it did work out, but no one should be pissed at Edgar.  I know first hand how much he wanted to stay in STL.  Why do you think he went to Boston and had one of his worst years as a pro?

But think what you want.  You die hard Cardinal fans will believe anything.  lol  But hey, what do I know?  I am just a former golfer who knows a couple people here and there.

And why all the drama over Jim Edmonds? He will get hurt and run out of gas by september.  As soon as it gets cold, he'll find a way to sit.   Do you people know how many games Albert Pujols has played hurt and watched the former CF of the Cardinals limp around like a bytch?  I am glad Edmonds is gone, he was a part of a great team in 2006.  But he is full of drama and always hurt.

Watch what happens in the second half.

Yep Cards_68 Edmonds needs to keep in good with the Cards fans or who is going to go to the new restaurant that he opened? If he ticks off all of St. Louis then he will have to close the restaurant that he spent so much money opening right before he headed to So Cal.
