How sacrificial of her, and now that she's a nun, how can anyone call her a liar? Just like this.........Liar. Pretty bold for someone to step-up after losing and say "oh, I lost on purpose". Never mind that the other player was extremely better than her and most likely didn't need any "favors" to win anyway. If it's true or not, it never should have been said. What purpose does it server to say such a thing other than to garner attention.

Did she lie... this time? I don't know, but the first time, yeah, you could say she lied. She was supposed to try her hardest to win, but didn't. She probably told her father a lie so she didn't have to admit throwing the match. I expect she had to lie to explain it to lots of other people in her life.
I'm not sure if you have ever done anything you've felt guilty about, but it sits with you, often for years, if you never deal with it. So, what is the purpose of saying it? It is clearing up the waters... it is admitting to basically living a lie for 25 years. She's become a nun, so perhaps it is now that she realizes how much guilt and being false can weigh on someone.
Would Martina have beaten her? Probably, but that isn't the point. I seriously doubt she is just trying to grab attention. Do I know for sure? No, but I'm willing to give her the benefit of the doubt and since I understand the nature of how things stay with you if you never deal with them.
My 2 cents.

I believe her. This is why women athletes aren't taken very seriously. Like every other woman on the planet, they tend to react emotionally instead of logically to most situations. Now, if this were a guy telling this same story about how he lost some championship, I'd think he was some whiny crybaby making lame excuses for why he got beat.

Oh, please. Like "every other woman"?
And John McEnroe. When he pissed and moaned and whined while playing, was he acting emotionally or was he acting like every other man on the planet, logically instead of emotionally.
Andrea Jaeger was a child at the time she supposedly gave away that match. And like every other child on the planet, she tended to react emotionally instead of logically to the situation.

My question is, why bring this up now? and why publicly? She should talk to Martina about it, not a reporter. That is unless she is cash strapped. This is not even worth bringing up 15 years later. If it is true and she feels guilty, talk to Martina, who most likely will say "Try or not, I would kick your a--."

Funny thing here is that after reading the headline, my assumption was another gambling ring got hold of a player. Not the case this time I see...
Avenger, there is a point to be made about male vs. female atheletes (obviously no blamket statements). Their tendencies do tend to fall on emotional vs. logical. Mac was and still can be a whiner. Reggie Miller is the same.
As for her being cash strapped, she's a nun in a convent.

I let you win.
I hope this doesn't get any more press. It's ridiculous and the last thing tennis needs after the betting scandal.
