As far as an economical pitcher, there was talk of Gil Meche from KC. Personally, I don't want him. As you stated there was the talk of Maddux. Another one I don't want. A.J. Burnett would be an interesting pickup. He goes deep into games, and is pitching very well right now. I would like to pursue that. If they can wait until July 31st, both Rich Harden (whom I think would be great) and Joe Blanton from Oakland should be available. But Billy Beane is very shrewd about who he gets in return.
As far as what they would give up...........both major league and minor league players is what I have heard. The major league players that would be available are the usual suspects: Cedeno, Gallagher, Marshall, Murton, Fontenot. Nothing earth shattering there, but probably not enough to get a pitcher. So the minor leaguers that are being asked about are Josh Vitters (young 3B taken #3 overall in last year's draft......probably untouchable), Donald Veal and Jose Ceda (the best 2 pitchers in the Cubs organization), Tyler Colvin (a projected 15-year starting CF), and Jeff Samardzija (the pitcher that played WR at Notre Dame............I wouldn't mind if he was dealt, a bit overrated in my mind).
