Not too shabby, eh?!  How about good ol' Luc almost making it into the first round after all?  Good for him.

Even though I've been keeping an eye on the mock drafts, "expert" picks, etc., I still was surprised to see Russell go at #4.  I was at the West Virginia game just about 1 1/2 years ago when he had to sub for an injured Darren and I couldn't believe how nervous and outplayed he was.  Then he gets his act together this quickly and goes #4--simply amazing.

Oh yeah, the ironic thing was that I was ripping on Mayo for getting stuck in Minnesota and I was so ready for a road trip down to Memphis to watch Kevin.  Oops, never mind!

Westbrook's rise from small high school kid, to  awful freshman player, to pretty good sophmore player, to #4 in the NBA draft is AMAZING!  I think he will be a great pro. He works hard, seems like a good kid, and he is athletic. Once he gets that shot down I think he will be something special.

With high draft picks to both Westbrook and Love, UCLA and Coach Howland show potential top recruits that we are the premier basketball program in the nation. Westbrook just 2 years came out from high school where hardly anyone took notice propelled to lottery pick. 3 years in a row we have players drafted in the 1st round. Players playing for us will get  top exposure even without ESPN TV contract. Westwood is the college basketball mecca contrary to what those East Coast fans think.

What Coach Howland has accomplished in for yeras is increadible.  Once again players are looking at UCLA as a school that can offer a NCAA contender, players that improve during their stay at Westwood, the #2 media market and that the Pac 10 conference is one of the countrys best.   The challange for Coach Howland is having to deal with the early departures to the nba.  The return of Aboya,Collison and Shipp and Co. along with the five freshman should translate to another trip deep into the NCAA tournament.

Yes, and let's get it done this time. I can't wait to see which of the freshman step up next year.I haven't been so anxious about the arrival of incoming freshmen since 1995 when our top recruiting class back then consisted of Toby Bailey, J.R. Henderson (Sakuragi), Kris Johnson, and omm'A Givens. We all know that only two of them stepped up during their freshmen year. This upcoming season providing all five of them grasp Coach Howland's defensive minded system right away, they can contribute and translate the team to Detroit.

The challange for Coach Howland is having to deal with the early departures to the nba. This is a dilemma that we rather have than having a team less talent in a very competitive Pac-10. Aside from fans in the West Coast last season, others downplay how really good and tough was Pac-10. By the time NBA draft came around, 3 of the top five and 7 in the first round are from Pac-10.

Luc Richard Mbah a Moute could have wait for another season to be a 1st rounder. Don MacLean said it best the other day when he was asked how did Luc got pick ahead of Chris Douglas-Roberts. He said Luc has a niche that's a really good defensive player whereas CDR is a little bit of everything. He compared his reasoning with Jason Kapono who cannot guard anyone or rebounding but he is only good at one thing that is 3 point shooting. Thus Kapono is still in NBA. Luc now has to make the roster and even if he did, he most likely will ended up in NBADL.
