Turned into the Pats??? Steel Curtain, you must be a new hockey fan. the Wings were doing this years before the Pats started to. its a lot harder winning the Stanley Cup then it is to win a Superbowl. The Wings over the last 12 years have won the top points spot more times then any team in any sport. then play a top team 7 times in 14 days to move to the next round. a lot harder to do then play 1 game against a top team, as they say any given Sunday.
as for this signing, i'm not real sure about it. what makes the Wings the team they are is they are a TEAM, not a group of good to great hockey players. its the Red Wing family in a way very few sports teams ever are. they are close & the owner takes care of his "family". why do you think Scotty Bowman just told the media as long as its this owner he isn't going anywhere. if Hossa buys into the program & becomes one of the family a 1 yr shot at the cup wont hurt the Wings in yrs to come but if he is a Bret Hull type then it may put something in the locker room that can not be easily removed. you dont have 9 straight 100 point seasons on talent alone & i give you the New York Rangers as an example. they have had as much talent as the Wings over the same period & not much to show for it.
