Earth calling Baron Davis, do you copy? If money is not the reason to move to L.A, than why not playing for the Lakers?. The last time I check, they're in L.A. too. In fact, they play in the same building as the Clippers. If money is not the reason to move to L.A., as an NBA player, isn't winning the championship is what its all about? Davis stands a better chance getting the championship ring playing for the Lakers than the Clippers, thats a given. So, this move really puzzles me. Obviously he doesn't want to win a championship in his NBA career and if thats the case, why would he play when he's injured? There's some strange millionaires out there huh?

That is what the Lakers need, a third player that needs the ball to be effective.  Bryant and Odom both need the ball for their one on one moves.  Davis is the same type of player.  The Lakers need tougher 4s and 5s and a 3 that can play defense and is a spot up shoot.  Davis was looking for a long term contract and got it.  He got  the security he was looking for.  Most players are more worried about contracts than winning.  Look at all the players who turned down contracts with the Lakers during the Shaq years when the Lakers were looking for a power forward.  They all went for the money, even Oakley a vet who had made his fortune already.  As fans we think only  about winning but for players it's about the bucks and security.

Who said it wasn't about the money?  Dude turned down a rent-a-player contract while the team positioned Monta Ellis to take over in 2009-2010 for a guaranteed job for the next 5 years.  With the Lakers' payroll they couldn't have offered him anything approaching what the Clippers did.  You think a guy that young would be willing to take the mid-level cap exemption?  He'd be downright stupid to.  He made the right move.

i couldnt agree with u more hawkman77.  lakers dont have the cash to pay baron davis what he was looking for.  though it would be nice to have baron on my laker team, i know it wouldnt really work.  lakers dont need another guard they need someone who can be a tough player at the small forward position.  anyways, well said, baron made a great choice by signing with the clippers.

funny how this guy who started the thread tries to be condescending to Davis as if players now have a choice on where they want to play at any time. This isn't NBA Live 98 where you can just stack a team and call it a day without worrying about salaries, contracts, expiring contracts etc. Earth to Baron Davis?? nice try kid. lets just go ahead and put Lebron on the nets and have them play the 70's Western conference all stars while were at it.
