The Cubs will be just fine - just got Fukudome back at full strength, Ramirez back tomorrow, getting Zambrano on Friday, and still waiting on Soriano and Johnson - they had a little bit of a rough stretch with a patchwork lineup, but will come back after the all star break healthy.

The Cubs are missing Soriano, Z and A-Ram right now...They can't be considered #2 in their current form. The last week proves that conclusively. The Brewers are the better team at the moment. If they pick up Sabathia or Harden, they are the favorite in the Central from here on in...

The Brewers had a better team last year and fell apart. They will do the same this year.

GET OVER IT ALREADY.

If a team had depth to the point that a player on the bench could come in and replace an injured All-Star(either a pitcher or a batter) to the same level, then don't you think they would be a STARTER??  The fact that Soriano is a major HR threat is sorely missed. Tonight's 2-1 loss is a good example. Even a solo shot from him brings extra innings.  No crying here though.  Injuries are part of the game and so ae bad stretches of baseball.  Cubs will roll through this and be fine come October.

Did I say replace?  I said produce.  Case in point Pena goes down with a broken finger.  He is replaced by Willy Aybar and Aybar hits for better average , but doesn't have the same level of skill at 1B or power he does.  He produced while he was playing regularly.  And that's what a good team needs from backups.  The Rays have Shawn RIggnas for a backup catcher.  Every time he gets a start he just rakes it out there hitting.

Holy cow, the Cub fans are crying. "Injuries" is yet another one in their long list of excuses that will follow after the next epic failure this team will produce. Want to hear about injuries? Hmm. How about Cardinals? #1 starter - gone. #2 starter - gone. The greatest player in baseball - gone for 3 weeks. Pretty much the entire team has been on the DL at one point of the season. yet, they are only a few games back.

But then again, what is really new here? Cubs blowing it is like death and taxes, inevitable.

Based on these usual moronic Cubs fan's posts, the Cardinals should be #1 since they are playing without their #1 and 2 pitchers, Chris Carpenter and Wainright. Carpenter is a much better pitcher than Zambrano so lets bump up the Cards because of the DL. How dumb. Injuries are part of the game. If you lose players, deal with it. The Cardinals have with their farm system.  Let's see what excuses we see from Cubs fans when they are saying this is our year after waiting 101 years.

Couple things here

Baseball JunkE,

I agree the Cubs need to win on the road, but NO ONE (other than the Angels) is winning on the road this year.  I don't know why, but if you look at the home/road split of almost every team, most teams (even good teams) are having problems on the road.

As far as the "Cubs will Choke like they do every year comments", get over it. First of all, the Cubs are usually already out of it by the All-Star break (I know I'm denigrating my own team, but it's true), secondly history means NOTHING to this team (Boston eventually won a WS, and so did the White Sox).  I'm 30, and have been following baseball for about 23 of those years.  This is the best Cubs team I can remember, with the best Manager I can remember.  I'm not saying the Cubs WILL win the division (that's why they play the games), or that they are the best, 2nd, or even 3rd best team baseball, but I feel more comfortable about this team than any team before.
