Listen, I don't think Mike Freeman should be calling himself a journalist.  I am the first one to complain about a lack of standards on CBS's part for letting this guy write.  Mike Freeman is absolutely unequivically correct on this issue.  I am proud of Mikey for writing this article.  Mike manned up and took a stand for his race, a REAL stand for his race.  Although I am prone to complain that his articles lean too much towards race and sensationalism this article needed to be written.  There needs to be a real discourse on race in this country and idiots going around disrespecting their own race by saying retarded stuff like the N word needs to stop.  Does Shaq have a right to say this?  Of course! Freeman is standing up for himself and his race.   I applaud Freeman for this keep it up Mike!

Yep, I've gotta agree that this is one of Mike Freeman's better efforts, but he could've manned up with both testes instead of just one of 'em.  To kick your point up a notch, I totally agree that idiots disrespecting their own race by using the N-word needs to stop.  But this means that the answer to the question of whether Shaq has a right to say this word is a resounding "no".

Freeman says the answer to the white NFL quarterback's question is fairly obvious, and it is, but not for the reason he gives.  The answer to why white brothas can't use words that black brothas can use is plain and simple discrimination.  The black folks who insist that they can use this word while white folks can't put themselves in the exact same position that white folks did when they mandated that black folks sit in the back of the bus, stay out of certain restaurants, etc.  Racism is racism, whether it's in reverse, forward, or any other gear.

The real solution to the problem is to either allow nobody to use the word, or allow everyone to use it, ala Blazing Saddles.  Any treatment of racial words that allows one set of rules for some people and another set of rules for others only serves to keep the fires fueled.*  If Mr. Freeman had made that point in this column, he'd probably have Pulitzer nominations coming out the wazoo.

* naturally, either set of rules suggested above would not apply to Irishmen.

WarpedMind and Pat "BradyMania" Buchanan agreeing with each other in the same thread?  Both praising Freeman too?  The end must be near!  I better not drink as much this Saturday night so that I can mosey my way down to church for the first time in recent memory!

As a black man, I think that the media overhypes and plays up the stereotype that blacks are sitting on their anger waiting to lash out at the first white person to use the n-word.  That's just not reality.  I'm sure Slim Shady has used it a lot before yet no black people care.  With minorities it's all about perceived respect and disrespect from people.  If you use the n-word while espousing some racist viewpoints, expect to get the proverbial smackdown put on you.  It's one of the few means of redress that blacks have over whites, the dreaded 'racist' label.  I personally find it kind of funny when someone like Imus has to constantly declare his black friends to try to fight off the racist label.  I'm also anticipating with great glee Obama being elected President and the likes of Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity needlessly blowing their gasket.

Overall, I think the n-word debate is just another distraction to push forward the talking point that blacks receive unfair positive treatment in society.  The debate usually starts off with affirmative action and leads to things like the n-word debate, "Why can they say it but we can't?"  Most blacks could care less if whites say the n-word (see Slim Shady).  It's different though if you sound like you're using it after coming back from a Klan rally or something.

Don't even think about arguing with me Warped, else I'm going to sick Tim Wise on you for some edumacation!

Welllll, look what the cat dragged in.  If it isn't my favorite Negro.  I was starting to wonder if you were stuck in the hoosegow for life.  Good to c-ya back, Skins!

The thought of Rush Limbaugh blowing a gasket is delicious indeed.  The only way Obama can screw up my vote now is to pick Clinton as running mate.  Hillary deserves a prominent role in the upcoming administration, but not the #2 spot.  If the Democrats find another way to screw up a sure election, I'm writing in Mike Freeman for prez and either Gregg Doyel or Bradymania for veep.

Getting somewhat back to the topic, I'll test your theory out in the hood after work today; every time I walk by some brothas, I'll greet 'em with a friendly "hey, how are ya doin', n-----?" and get back to you with the results on Monday.

You put me in the same pile as Freeman and Doyell?  Today was a bad day!
