McPherson had back surgery last year and was released....The Marlins signed him and he is playing at AAA Alberquerque....He has 28 HRS....310 avg.....412 OBP.....he is a left handed hitter 3B who can also play 1B, hell, even throw that bum Laroche in the deal.

You can go to the thread called The Verdict on Russel/Huntington from April 22 and see what I thought about Dallas McPherson way back then.  How could a team like the Pirates let such low cost/high reward guys like Jorge Cantu and Dallas slip through their fingers, when they basically had one option at the time at third base.  McPherson hit 40 homeruns in AAA and had a good OBP three years ago, yet the Angels chose not to sign him.  Huntington and the boys had to view him as another option at third base.  I just never understood why they didn't get some competition for Bautista.

Also, looking back know, SIGNING DALLAS MCPHERSON BACK THEN WOULD HAVE CHANGED THE WHOLE COMPLEXITY OF THE DRAFT.  The Bucs could've passed on the high priced Alvarez because they would've had a solid 27 year old at the position.

McPherson's days as a prospect are over, calm down guys. Anyone notice the #2 HR leader in the minors? He's a 27 year old with a similar all or nothing approach named Brad Eldred. He has 26HR in the White Sox organization and hasn't even sniffed a call up. Eldred has 84K's this year McPherson has 95K's! These guys are at AAA for a reason, they can hit fastballs a mile but are lost against MLB breaking stuff. Dallas can't beat out Jorge Cantu or Mike Jacobs for a shot, that should tell you something.

The Buccos production from the two corner infield positions has been consistently below average.  A lefty hitting .309 with 28 homeruns in AAA is an immediate upgrade over Laroche and/or Bautista despite the 93 K's.  I think I could deal with all of the K's if the player is going to hit over .300.  But you are right, there has to be something up with this guy or else more teams would've been bidding for his service other than just the Fish when he was released by the Angels.

Brad Eldred  (age 27) .265 26 HR's 84 K's and 22 Walks

Dallas McPherson (age 27) .309 28 HR's 93 K's and 46 Walks

Jose Bautista (age 27) .263 9 HR 56 K's 24 Walks

Adam Laroche (age 28) .220 7 HR 67 K's and 29 Walks
