Listen, I'm all for ditching garbage contracts, offensive black holes, you name it. So naturally I perked up when I saw this. I'm all for getting a deal done with the right motives in mind.
With that said, I do think how it's funny how this time every year, for the past couple of years, all of a sudden Adam Dunn becomes to savior that team X needs. Don't you find that funny too? Sure you do.
What I don't know about Adam Dunn, is how exactly he fits into a system that obviously has to give up contracts and prospects to get him, because obviously something has stopped every team thus far from pulling the trigger on him.
What I do know about Adam Dunn, is that he carries a MLB career OBP of .382 with a .519 SLG % and don't forget the .248 BA. You already know the KO problems.
Now, humor me if you will, that mysterious player X is already on the Dodgers and has a MLB career OBP of .340 with a .492 SLG % and a .261 BA. Sound pretty good? Ok, good.
Let's also say Adam Dunn is 28 and mysterious player X is 31.
Have you guessed him yet? Yes the Dodgers already tried to go and get their power bat, albeit 3 years older. But at least Colletti only had to give up cashola to get him, not players. Is that good or bad? Depends on who you ask.
So what I honestly fail to see is how this would make sense for the dodgers, seeing as how they are going through a massive super youth movement already, to once again take on another huge contract, which any team going for Dunn is going to have to do to get anything in return.
I'm sure he can help, but that kind of help isn't going to improve our lineup from top to bottom. How about a multiple player deal instead, with table setters and speedsters and plus bats and plus arms that can pickup for young guys who are slumping? Seems better to me, but that's just my opinion.

I dont care about the money part when talking about contracts, it's not a big deal for team in their market. They will spend what they spend, it's not like us LA fans are in from say Tampa Bay or something where spending actually means something. Most of the young players, still have 4 or 5 years until FA, and arbitration values wont take their price up that far. That said...
What Adam Dunn brings to the table is an actual bat that induces fear in the other team, something completely lacking in this club. Andruw Jones (MR. X) may not have been much this season so far, but you nor anyone else can't predict what he will do when he comes back. The threat of his power in the line-up is a huge deal, add Adam Dunn to that and it's a very scary lineup with everyone healthy. Furcal, Martin, Dunn, Kent, Jones, Kemp, Loney, DeWitt, (not in any particular order). Don't under estimate what happens in baseball when a player like Adam Dunn comes up to bat with two guys on in the bottom of the eigth, trailing by one. Now he may strike out half the time, but the other half he hits it 450 ft. That said...
I wouldn't trade for him, I'm a big fan of the Ethier, Jones, Kemp outfield, I still want to see that come to fruition. You know the dreams we all had in the beginning of the year. We do know that Colletti is going to do something, I'm just scared of what that's going to be.

I think your fear is pretty genuine, maybe we should start a prayer circle on July 31st just in case. I could bring the steaks.

Pierre, Hu, and Cash to Cin for Dunn?
Id do that in a HEARTBEAT, whats there to think about? Everyone has been praying, wishing, hoping to some how trade Pierre, and if this were to fall on Neds lap, hed be dumb not to take it. Yes, Dunn strikes out alot and doesnt hit for avg, but ur gonna get 100 RBIs and 40+ HRs everyone. Hes a free Agent at the end of the year, but still you get rid of ur headache in Pierre, you might lose out on Hu maybe, maybe not, and maybe Dunn does well and we make the playoffs with him in LF, maybe he doesnt do well, so what, you let him go in FA and you take the draft picks. I only see a win win situation here.

I'm not much of a Dunn fan and I don't think he solves our problems. Our biggest problem is not HR's as much as hitting w/RISP. How many knew yesterday when we had the bases loaded that we wouldn't score. Dunn hits .203 w/RISP, so I think most of his HR's would be solo shots on this team. We just need more timely hitting. The Twins have hit 1 more HR than us and have scored over 50 more runs than us. If we trade for somebody I want somebody that can hit more in the clutch. With Dunn and when Jones gets back our big "power guys" will also be .220 hitters. Now that will srike fear in all of baseball.
