Once again another all-star talent the Bulls could have gotten goes to another team.  Pierce, Garnett, Gasol, Kobe, now ONeal, Paxson better do something cause a team with 6 guards, once the Bulls draft Rose, is not the way to go.  ONeal has injury issues and makes a lot, but with the Bulls he would have provided low post scoring, good rebounding, and great shot blocking, plus if he didn't pan out and stay healthy his contract would be up soon.

This trade doesn't really get under my skin.  Jermaine O'Neal has already been in the league 12 seasons, he has developed injury problems, his production has dropped off dramatically and he has a massive contract.  Let the Raptors have him!! Yes the Bulls missed their chance on Kevin Garnett, Pau Gasol, and Kobe, but I'd rather see the Bulls go in another direction like Elton Brand, even though he missed most of last season with a torn achilles.  With Brand, he is a true post-up player, and after all he was the #1 overall pick of the Bulls 10 years ago.  Elton Brand ranked in the top 10 in the entire NBA  in Efficiency the last 5 seasons he was healthy.  Also, if so many fans want a Power Forward/low post threat, what's wrong with drafting 6'8 Kansas State PF Michael Beasley? I would favor 6'2 PG Derrick Rose with the #1 overall pick and then try and package a few of our players for a low-post player.  6'3 PG Kirk Hinrich and 6'8 PF Ty Thomas to the Clippers for 6'8 PF Elton Brand. But Elton Brand prefers to play in Miami with Dwayne Wade and is planning on signing with them once he becomes a unrestricted F/A.  If the Bulls were to trade for him, they would have to give him a very large contract extension- somewhere maybe in the 80 million dollar range and with Luol Deng commanding maybe nearly 60 million this summer, Ben Gordon seeking 55 million, Nocioni owed 45 million, Hinrich owed 40+ million, Hughes owed 13 million a year, I don't see where the money is going to come from? Drew Gooden will be a free agent after this season and will probaly be seeking in the 8-10 million a season range. Are these players worth all that money, heck no but that is what the market is paying them.

We dont always know what the team wanted and from what i hear the Kobe trade was never even close, the Timberwolves didnt want our players, and Oneal has been injured for years now.  The Gasol trade was definitly posible but i don't think he would have brought us a championship.  I love how people think the Bulls could trade for anyone anytime, it takes both teams, and outside of getting two or three of these players we would still just be .500 team and would not have the first pick in the draft. Rose is on the way and he is going to be a superstar, be excited very excited.

I don't think I would have wanted Jermaine O'Neal.  He will be 30 this year and has a horrible injury history.  Plus he is owed $44 mil over the next two years so to get him we woul dhave had to renounce our rights to Deng and Gorden and hwould have had to move bigtime salary.

I think the Bulls will make a trade, they have to, they have way too many guards.  Paxson has been doing nothing and the Bulls are no closer to a championship than they were 3 years ago.  Rose will help and I agree he is a superstar, but there is no way the current roster can do it.  ONeal has his issues but he is a low post scorer, a rebounder, and a shot blocker, and the Raptors will be a better team next year with him.  Most of us don't think the Bulls can trade anytime, anywhere, I know with the salary cap situation in the NBA, that trades are hard.  But the Bulls have enough good young players and there have been enough all-star players traded in the last couple of seasons to believe that Paxson could have worked something out.

There is always a chance but the biggest bait they have is the #1. Gorden, Deng, Nocioni, Hinrich, T.T., Noah etc are not names out there that grab attention to pull off big deals. They are good players but not all stars. It takes talent to move talent. And sometime moving 3 for 1 doesn't work out. 3 avg players for 1 all star. It has to go both ways and most teams are not looking for other teams excess baggage. They are looking for impact players.

It would be nice to get a talent like O'neal but he was on the books for 23 mil. The Pacers wanted to get rid of that contract. That would have been a bad move for the Bulls as they already have cap space problems.
