Greenspan is taking the fall, but I've got to believe former IU president Adam Herbert had as much to do with the hiring of Sampson as Greenspan.  Herbert won't admit as such, but the fact that Greenspan is taking FULL responsibility and not pulling anyone else down with him tells me all I need to know about Greenspan the man.  I might eat these words if Greenspan writes a tell all deal about how it wasn't his fault, but until that happens Greenspan should no longer be the brunt of Hoosier nation anger.  He should now be left alone to finish out his brief remaining tenure in peace.

You are more than correct when you state Greenspan is taking the fall. From what I understand and have heard Herbert was relentless in hiring Sampson which went against Rick's beliefs of what type of coach Indiana needed and wanted when they were coach searching. And of course, Herbert is obviously no longer the active President therefor escaping any wrong doing and most importantly, any repercussions --- my opinion -- Herbert should be stripped naked and tied to a pole on Kirkwood while being pelted with cell phones -- but again, just an opinion.

I believe that Adam Herbert should go also.  It is very hard to get rid of a professor at IU.  I also believe the Greenspan should go right now.  Pay him through December and have him stay home.

They should look for an athletic director immediately.  I also believe the person in charge of compliance with NCAA rules shoud also be let go.

Our "friend" in charge of the NCAA is doing it to us again.  First Bob Knight and now this!!

Greenspan should take responsibility.  He's the #1 guy in terms of running the IU athletic program & needs to shoulder the responsibility when something goes bad after his decision went bad.  While nobody could have seen Samscum being as stupid as he was violating the same rules that got him into trouble while @ OU Greenspan needs to take the blame for not seeing the integrity issues that seem to reside within Samscum.

Grenspan is doing the right thing in accepting responsibility and resigning.  As athletic director it was his responsibility to monitor the basketball program for compliance.  Sampson came to Indiana with the baggage of past violations.  While it may not be assumed that he will repeat his misconduct there should have been a hightened level of monitoring to assure this would not happen.

he strood up for a quich fix  when he hired Sampson.

No need to feel sorry about that, it is the next 4 years of IU hoops one should feel sorry about. Only one schoalarship player left.

I don't see this as an issue of honor or being a "stand up guy."  It is about accountability and competence. Greenspan recommended the hiring of a coach who was in the midst of an NCAA investigation.  Should have been an automatic pass.  So what if Herbert wanted him. Greenspan could speak up and say thats a bad idea. And for Sampson's behavior while a coach, the accountability was not there at all. That goes right back to Greenspan.  I don't despise him, I think he is getting what he deserves. Let's all read between the lines here. You think he is really just resigning on his own?  Read the "Art of War" and you will draw the conclusionn that one samuri has been given a gracious opportunity to depart.
