Congrats to her for becomming the 2nd woman to dunk during a WNBA game.  But PLEASE stop saying she won a dunk contest against men while in college.  She won because she is a woman, not because she out-dunked any of them.

No, they should stop saying that because she never participated in a dunk contest against men while in college.

She  won a HIGH SCHOOL Slam Dunk contest of the McDonald's High School All-American Game in Oklahoma City. Only a 17-year-old high school senior, Parker outlasted five male competitors - not men but rather teenagers -- for the title, including future 2005 NBA Slam Dunk contestant JR Smith and champion Josh Smith.

THey missed their dunks, she made hers. There ya go.

I have got to be fair. She is definitely a great athlete, but considering the height of a lot of the players etc. I actually think it is kind of sad that a dunk has occurred only twice in the WNBA. This is supposed to be the best female basketball in the world and with the smaller ball, etc.

Speculations:

1) It may be a culture thing.  In "old school" basketball, someone who tried to dunk on a different player would have been taken down, hard. Now the defender just steps aside and lets him do it. In the WNBA, perhaps the culture hasn't reached that level yet.

It's like the 4 minute mile.  Couldnt' be done...couldnt' be done... then just months after Bannister did it for the first time, everyone could do it.   Maybe now more women will dunk.

2) Women are 3 times more likely to tear their ACLS than guys are, so maybe they're just kind of hesitant to put on the moves necessary to get up high enough to slam it down.

3) There's a young woman named Britney Griner who slams it down with ease - and is not afraid to do it in traffic. She starts at Baylor next year, I believe...

...or maybe if you want to see dunks you either should watch the men or have the WNBA play on 8 foot goals.  It's not a cultural or medical thing, it is a physical thing.  Women can't do it as easily as men.  Period.
