Speculations:
1) It may be a culture thing. In "old school" basketball, someone who tried to dunk on a different player would have been taken down, hard. Now the defender just steps aside and lets him do it. In the WNBA, perhaps the culture hasn't reached that level yet.
It's like the 4 minute mile. Couldnt' be done...couldnt' be done... then just months after Bannister did it for the first time, everyone could do it. Maybe now more women will dunk.
2) Women are 3 times more likely to tear their ACLS than guys are, so maybe they're just kind of hesitant to put on the moves necessary to get up high enough to slam it down.
3) There's a young woman named Britney Griner who slams it down with ease - and is not afraid to do it in traffic. She starts at Baylor next year, I believe...
