Look, I really dislike the guy.  I don't believe I've despised a single player more than him, save for Jose Canseco when I was a little bitty boy.

The Dodgers have 51 HRs in 2575 AB's this season.  The guy had 28 HRs in 340 AB's.

Dodgers, HR every 50 AB's.  Bonds HR every 12 AB's.  Or, a better stat, every Dodgers at bat, there's a 2% chance, they will hit a home run.  With Bonds, there's a 8% chance he will hit a home run.  Quadruple the likelihood.

Don't get me started on the guy's OBP.

Lastly, Bonds has been quoted as wanting the league minimum to play.

I root for the name on the front of the jersey, not the back.  Whatever can help us win.

League minimum people!  Andruw Jones makes $111,728 a GAME!  If he were to give Barry Bonds 3 days worth of salary, we'd have the guy the whole year.  Who cares if he goes to federal prison for that kind of dough!

Nope. Sorry.

I would seriously quit being a Dodger fan if they would ever sign Barry.

Who is a more liability in left field?

A skinny guy that can run all over the outfield but can barely throw the ball back in?

or

AARP member that can throw it back in but can barely move around in the outfield?

The Dodgers don't look like they want to win this year anyways....

The best move the Dodgers can do before the trading deadline is.....fire Colleti!!

Do you want to get cut? This is a board for LA Fans after all.

Whoever thinks Barry Bonds can seriously help any ball club, has either a lack of knowledge of how the game works or is feeling pretty desperate. I am guessing you are in the ladder. But don't take my word for it, why do you think NO gm wants to deal with that nightmare? There is more to it than just stats.

This is PR suicide we are talking about here. And besides, having a guy like a Barry Bonds is not going to put the guys in front of him on base, managers will have staffs pitch the same and just pitch around Bonds if necessary.

I'm happy to see Dodger fans think 'outside the box' as it were, and come up with some innovative solutions to the team's problems, but I'm afraid signing Bonds would be completely insane. (Which means if Ned's read your post he's paging Barry right now).

Even putting aside the fact that I personally hate the guy, that Bonds is way, way past his prime, and that the whole signing antiquated ex-Giants thing that Colletti has going (Tomko, Sweeney, Schmidt etc) hasn't exactly worked wonders for the Dodgers lately, the fact is that Bonds would bring far too much baggage to be anything other than a hindrance rather than a help. Plus what kind of message does it send to the kids to bring in a guy almost 44 years old who has been federally indicted? We might need some veteran clubhouse leadership, but we don't need some self-centered dick whose very presence would signal complete desperation on the part of the Dodgers.

Here's a less drastic course of action for McCourt and the Dodgers: Fire Colletti, make Logan White interim GM (with the option to remove the interim tag if all goes well), and let it be known to Torre, Easler, Honeycutt, Conte, and all the players that the collective performance of the Dodgers thus far in 2008 has been totally unacceptable, and that people need to start being held accountable for it.
