i hate to say it but there is absolutely no way in hell the new york Yankees are the 5th best team in baseball....they swept 2 weak teams (houston and san diego) and dropped 2 of 3 to the lowly Reds at home....i can understand a top ten ranking but 9th or 10th would be more fitting than 5th

I 100% Agree  just because they are the New York Yankees  doesn't give them an automatic bump up a few spots.

E. Mack has been on the Yankees jock for as long as he's done these rankings...

but if the Yanks can get their young guys on the rotation to pitch the way they're capable... wow... it's going to be a good front 3 in a couple years...

They need more than just the young pitcher to step it up, but the vets too.  Mike is now suffering from Baltimore-itis, where you pitch great but get NO run support.  Wang is on the DL along with MOST of those 'young guys'.  Rasner went from unstoppable to unwinnable with his ERA skyrocketing to 4.50.  When will Hughes and Kennedy get back?  Will it matter if they do because they were stinking the place up before they both hit the DL.  That leaves Andy as the only rock solid pitcher going right now.

CC Sabathia might be the only solution to the rotation issues

I forgot to mention (How could I forget!) Joba.  But my call on that is 'so far so good but ..'  This is still and 'experiment' and it could still blow up in the Yankee's faces.

Took the words right out of my mouth.  When I opened the power rankings story, I was expecting to see the Yanks somewhere near th bottom of the top ten.  I was shocked to see them at 5.  They've definitely been playing better ball lately, but there's still a long way to go before they get to where they want to be.  The bats are coming alive, and the bullpen has been pretty solid, but the question marks in the rotation are a bit scary.

I know a lot of people are high on Sabathia right now, but I would love to see the Yankees get Erik Bedard.  He's locked up for as few years, and he's battle tested in the AL East.  Sabathia's got a great arm, but there's just something about him (call it a gut feeling) that makes me think he'd be a bust in NY.

These ranking are not trying to say who is the best team or who is the 5tgh best team, they are a snapshot of who is hot at any given time. In other words,if you had the Yanks on your schedule this week, the ranking are there to give you an idea of how they are playing right now.

I was a little surprised to see the Yankees so high on the power rankings as well this week. However, when you look at the list, who do think, out of the teams ranked below the Yankees, is better? I find it pretty hard to make a good argument for any of the teams.

So, where I initially agreed with you that it's hard to say they're the 5th best team in baseball, whether this is a snapshot or overall ranking, I don't know... I think that they might just be.
