I learned a lot from last night's broadcast, and I didn't even watch all nine innings.

First, I learned a little more about Wild Bill Hagy and good old section 34.  I'd seen him at games and heard the talk about him, but I never knew the whole story.

Second, I learned that Orioles second-round pick Xavier Avery has signed and will be going to the minors.  He seemed like a good kid from the interview they gave him.  He said his role models were Andruw Jones and Ken Griffey Jr.  Good choices, if you ask me.

Third I learned that I like Garrett Olson's ability a lot.  He let things unravel him in the fifth, which happens to young pitchers, but before that he was excellent.  He needs to learn to not rely on the pitch that isn't working that night, but so do most young pitchers.

Fourth I learned that the Orioles are hitting better from the DH slot than anyone.  The average and power numbers range from 1st-3rd in the league.  Are you kidding me?  I never would've called that in 100 years.

Fifth I learned that Jim Palmer never surrendered a grand slam in his career.  I probably already heard that but had forgotten.  Another interesting bit of trivia.

Garrett Olson has moved up on my favorite Orioles list just for strikeing Miguel Tejada out and not allowing him a hit. Heres to you, Garrett.....

Anybody here 3rd round pick B.J. Hoes has been a life long Orioles fan and frequently went to Camden Yards as a kid? Good story.

I knew that. When I did one of my All-Star votes, which i d one for stats and one all O's, the only Orioles i could vote for was Aubrey Huff, cause he led in most catagories at DH.

Great win by the O's!!  Too bad I couldn't stay up and watch it.

And as for Jim Johnson...............I think he's doing great in the bullpen, and he should stay there.  No need to change something if it is working just fine.

Hopefully we can take the series tonight!!

First, I learned a little more about Wild Bill Hagy and good old section 34.  I'd seen him at games and heard the talk about him, but I never knew the whole story.

Wild Bill was THE MAN.  After he "retired" from being fan numero uno, he was a cab driver in Catonsville.  In the early 90s I worked at a convenience store there, and he still would like to talk about the Birds ... after I gave him his three quarter-pound big bites, lol.  But seriously, he was truly an icon, and I had nothing but fan love for the guy.

Fifth I learned that Jim Palmer never surrendered a grand slam in his career.

Pretty unbeliveable stat, isn't it?  You have to figure that he faced a helluva lot of guys with the bases loaded over his career and NEVER gave up a homer in those situations.  This may have been the 1st bit of Oriole trivia I ever knew, as my dad told me this 50 times by the time I was 5, lol.

Also, pitt, I saw X. Avery and his dad, and he does seem like a good kid.  It's always great to see the early picks sign quick and seemingly take a liking to the team.  I was also impressed with his 2 favorite players:  Griffey and A. Jones.

I feel awful for Guthrie. He never gets any run support. He pitched great and once again has nothing to show for it. However, is anyone else concerned with his number of homers given up? We are just lucky that we havent had anyone on base.

The same thing happened towards the second half of the season last year, but people started getting on base. Anyone else see a repeat performance?
