What does this mean for the US Ryder Cup team?

Basing my prediction on what has happened the past decade, I can say with 100% certanty that I have absolutely no idea how the Ryder Cup will play out... and with or without Tiger, September can't get here fast enough!

It's bad enough we were getting our butts kicked WITH Tiger on our team, who knows what will happen..

Honestly, Tigers Ryder Cup record is above average but not ungodly, he has been beaten a lot in Ryder Cup matches and although we will miss him and his presence I still think the US can show up and play good enough golf to win...

Maybe they'll the US will have a chance to win now, Tigers record in the Ryder Cup

isn't that stellar.

Woods has never played all that great in the Ryder Cup, so I don't think it'll have as negative an effect as it will on the rest of this PGA season, and the Fedex Cup. If the truth be known, I don't think Tiger gives a rat's ass about the Ryder Cup or the President's Cup, he's never been what you'd call a team player. Actually his absence will cast a huge shadow over the rest of the season, and I for one don't have nearly the interest in televised golf that I would have had if Woods were playing. It's going to be weird for players who win events that Woods would normally play in too, they'll feel like their win should have an asterisk next to it, * = Tiger was unable to play.

So you arent watching the British Open or the PGA Championship or the Ryder Cup simply because Tiger won't be playing in the events?

I love the British Open and will watch it anyway, but honestly the PGA Championship just doesn't hold the allure that the other three majors (or even the Players).  The PGA for me feels like it's missing an identity.  I'd love if the PGA went back to a match play format.  Line up the participants on Wednesday and let them play for 64 seeded spots based on their score.

For the Ryder Cup, I think this may help the US.  It's already been noted that the US lacks the team mentality, or at least to the degree that the Europeans have it.  It often been hypothesized by commentators that the reason is that the US has a lot of star power but not team players.  Plus, without their #1 playing, (hopefully) the other players will realize they need to step it up a notch since they won't have Tiger to rely on for a crowd roar and a jumpstart.

One question I have since I'm too lazy to look it up.  Does this mean the US captain gets a third captain's pick or that the 10 that qualify are 2-11 in the points standings?  If it's a third captain's pick, this will be a huge pick for our captain (sorry, I can't remember who the captain is).

The captain is Paul Azinger and I doubt they will give them a 3rd pick, it has always been top performers and 2 picks elsewhere, they will probably just take the next guy on the list and make thier 2 other picks accordingly.

Hope he picks Freddie and puts him back in the Ryder Cup !!
