I only got to watch the first few holes but these guys looked a little nervous.  Is that possible?  It was certainly up and down.  Tiger blows up the first hole then comes back then finishes just over par.  Phil starts strong, has a brain cramp for 3 holes then comes back on the back 9.

They are both in good position. Most of the guys around them at this point are no names.  Of course that could change since at the time I am writing this there are a bunch of players still on the course.

All in all, not bad.  The crowd seemed to be a non-issue, just big.  The course is playing tough, lots of delicate shots into firm greens.  I can't wait until tomorrow when these guys start late and finish in prime time.  Very cool.

So, answer the question - Did today's match-up of the Titans live up to its billing?

Before you take my opinion as gold, I didn't start watching until they were on 7.  It was so exciting to watch Tiger and Phil in the same group that I fell asleep and woke up as they were on 17, or missed some shots while flipping back and forth with Law and Order.  All ESPN's two hours were about was that pairing.  Yes I know that Adam Scott was in the group, but only because I happened to see him walk behind Phil once.

It really wasn't anything special.  Neither of them are gunning for each other at this point in the tournament.  They've got their hands full with the course.  If they are paired last on Sunday 3 shots or more clear of everyone elase, then I can see it being more exciting.  They then could almost approach it as a match and play off of each other's moves.

I watched it off and on and came away thinking the pairing helps Mickelson if anyone. At one point, I think Phil was +3 and Tiger was -1. If they weren't paired together, Phil might have tried to force something. Instead, he stayed patient and attacked where possible and ended up winning the matchup.

I know a lot of Tiger fans were shocked to see Phil not fold there.
