okay, i've been wanting to write this for some time....it's going to piss a lot of people off, but really, i don't care......this is my opinion, and only my opinion, on sports in the United States..........top line....IDIOTIC!!!!..... please read on......

NFL.....most teams play 16 games a season.....what kind of season is that? people have longer hobbies.....it's a 60 minute game that takes 3 hours to play....that means if you're surfing channels, there's a 67% chance that you'll tune into commercials.....with the snap count and running down the clock, there's maybe 40 minutes of "action"....that is if some oveweight, guy doesn't have to suck in oxygen because he's run 5 yards.....please remember that they're geting paid millions of dollars to be on a field for about 20 minutes a week.......the off season is so long, they get bored, so go out to commit felonies......when they've served their time, they come back to multi million dollar contracts....

BOTTOM LINE..... committing a felony and serving time in prison should mean that they can NEVER be employed by ANY team......PERIOD!!!!

The same should apply to the NBA or MLB, but their seasons are long......they work hard.......however the same rules regarding committing felonies should apply.

Finally.......why are the NBA or MLB champions are called World Champions? Who do they play to be World Champions? It's a little arrogant to say that we are the best, without actually playing teams from other countries.....it's understantable regarding the NFL because no other country cares about the game.

This should be the start of a great thread because we think we are the best at everything....it's why we don't like soccer...."there's not enough scoring", but isn't a pitchers duel considered a great game.......check out the amazing atmosphere at a european soccer match.....singing....noise.....then compere it to the moronic chanting at an american sporting event....."DEFENCE, DEFENCE, DEFENCE".....isn't that a bit hypoctrical considering the demand for offense?

It's time to wake up.....being World Champions at soccer would be the greatest achievement.....the potential in this country is huge.....it's the only sport that can get respect for our country by being champions........those of you that disagree are probably better off sitting in your igloos from february until september.

I'm not a soccer fanatic, in fact i love watching basketball and baseball.......my teams suck, but it doesn't stop me rooting for them.

BOTTOM LINE......we may be World leaders in politcs and strength, but it's time to join and challenge the best of the rest of the sporting world

Let me help you with your math.

#1 There is not a 67% chance of turning a football game and getting a commercial.  Ther is about a 67% chance that the clock is not running.  They don't go to a commercial on every dead ball.

#2 If a starter plays every down, they would be playing 30 minutes not 20.  Half of 60 is 30.

#3 100% of football players don't get bored and commit  felonies.  In fact the percent of football players that are arrested is less than the national average.

Now I'll call back in my igloo where  I've got electicity!

so why does it take 3 hours to play a one hour game?....the snap clock is 25 seconds, right? what's going on during that time? I didn't say 100% commit felonies....I'm just saying that if they commit crimes, it should cost them their easy life, then they'd have to go and find a job......there has to be a price to pay......those who respect their job, their sport and respect the people who look up to them, especially kids, deserve everything they get........we all need heroes.

stay warm.

not really, although i do watch it from time to time......i prefer rugby.....my point is not about what i like, but what we should be trying to achieve when calling our national champions "World Champions", as well as our sporting "Stars" understanding the influence they have on our kids....if they abuse our respect, they should pay a heavy price.

a couple of years ago in england, a major soccer player missed a drug test, he took it the next day and was clean, but because he missed his original test, he was banned for one year........we are soft on offenders....a fine or a 4 game suspension without pay is a slap on the wrist.

drug offenses in tennis or the Athletics carry a 2 year ban.....shouldn't it be the same in this country for any sport?
