OK, so we are almost halfway into June and 6.5 back of first place and in third place in the division. Ya, Im not happy either. Too many games left out there that should have been wins. Something like 2-17 in 1 run games.

Having said that, can we trade Tex for a good-great starter or reliever? Smoltz is gone for the year, probably same for Moylan, Acosta and Boyer are terrible, and Gonzo is still out.

I HIGHLY doubt Tex stays with the Braves, so why not trade him now? There has to be some interest from the Yankees, but no pitcher on their team interests me excpet Joba, but no way are they getting him.

Any ideas/thoughts?

Tex won't be traded. Even if he leaves (he won't) the Braves will be just fine with a couple 1st round picks. And you just HAD to throw that asinine Boyer/Acosta comment in there, didn't you? Why don't you try making conclusions off of more than the last few games?

king,

Not even mentioned in the artical is the Braves payroll, which will be free of quite a few $ after this year (Hampton, Smoltz, Glavine). Signing Tex will not be a problem, IMO.

I have gone back and forth all season long on the seesaw named Mark Texeira.

In the offseason I had no doubts that we would obtain Tex' services beyond the 2008 season. Around spring training I started doubting the fact but now I may say that I am back on the end of Tex will have a tomahawk across his chest come April 2009.

You can't help but speculate that the reason chipper is hitting the ball so well is due to Texeira. Granted he wasn't the hottest bat coming out of the gates but teams know what type of threat he is and how he can go yard at anytime.

Come 2009 if Tex isn't in that lineup who is going to be that ticking time bomb that can go off at anytime? Chipper has pop but he isn't a 35-40 homer guy. Mac is more of an avg hitter and Francoeur. Well. Francoeur has yet to live up to his potential. The Braves need Mark in this lineup. Without him there is a huge gaping hole which will undoubtedly sink this team to the bottom of the NL East should we lose him.

One last point that I have been making for the last few months:

Any team that wishes to compete is going to have at least one player who pulls in $18-20+ million every year. Liberty Media isn't interested in being the longterm owners of the Braves. LM wants to turn a quick profit and what builds a teams' value more than a few big moves and a world series ring?

The braves have the recourses to offer and I think Tex is just the player to pull the trigger on. Sheffield wasn't good enough.. JD Drew wasn't good enough. Tex is the one we'll call the blitz with and lockup and throw away the key.

A few things that have me confident on this fact:

Mark's wife is from Georgia.
Mark went to GaTech
The majority of Mark's friends reside guess where? right! Georgia!
Chipper Jones. Mark loves the guy and no doubt loves hitting after him.
Mark bought a house in Atlanta.
John Scheurholz steps down. Maybe not a big factor but it's no secret that Johnnie S can't stand the Vampire Scott Boras. Coincidence that Johnnie steps down at a crucial turning point in Atlanta Braves history? I think not.

and finally..

Frank Wren. What better way to prove that you're not to be fooled around with than to go out lock up Texeira and throw away the key. Frankie will get it done. He'll goto the line with Boras and negotiate a fair deal that Tex and the Vampire will gladly take.

All these threads about "Who will we trade Tex for", "Who would you want to see for Tex", "Which NY team will sign him next year"......how about a thread about how much he might mean to the organization if we KEEP him...yes, I said it, KEEP Mark.  There are argue
