Does Riley Nelson (formerly of Utah State) have the ability to carry the torch after Max's departure?  I have not personally seen him play.

I've seen Riley Nelson play in a couple games on KJZZ, and from what I saw the kid was pretty impressive even though it was against some bottom feeder team in the WAC. Should be a nice addition to the Cougars in there Strong Factory of QB's.

Well, hopefully we won't be depending on just Riley.  Hopefully there'll be Lark, Munns, and a few others all competing for the job.  Right now, Riley deciding to switch to BYU should be bigger news to USU than it is to the BYU program.

The kid may turn out to be great, but starting for the worst team in all of Div I-A isn't much of a resume point.  Had he started for say, Texas, I might be a little more hyped at this moment.  Let two years pass, and we'll see what he's got to offer.

Thanks for the replies.  We'll see, if anyone can make an outstanding QB out of a mediocre base is BYU.

I saw him play in highschool, and have to say he is one of the best utah has seen.  It was incredible to watch him pick other teams apart, whether passing or rushing.  I don't know if that will translate into the college level though?  Like others have said the games that he played in were against some of the worst in college football.  I think the scenario of him switching to BYU is a little suspect, but what can you do.

What I think is cool is that it shows you the state of the program that so many top talent LDS kids want to play for Bronco. Who knows if Riley Nelson will even play QB at BYU? Maybe Munns or Lark grab the starting job. The one thing for sure is that in a few years, there will be a lot of talent competing for that job. And that is a good thing.

Then add in the RB from UNLV, and it's clear that BYU has really come around from losing many top recruits to being the place where top talent wants to come, then pick from the best.

It's all about having depth and right now the Cougars have it, and last season was a perfect example baring injuries to key players in the secondary and having those young men step up the way that they did is a testament to Bronco and his coaching staff.

Also ChiTown just think when Mckay Jacobson returns from his misson, who ever is the QB one thing is for certain there gonna have alot weapons to play with.

I'm just glad that we have Bronco Mendenhall as our coach instead of that one guy up on the hill. If Mendenhall keeps it up at this rate with the recruits coming in, winning conference championship's, maybe winning some major bowl games down the road he'll mentioned as one greatest BYU coaches to coach at BYU, but one thing is for certain LaVell will always be the man.

Go Cougars, here's to beating- Northen Iowa, Washington, UCLA, Wyoming, Utah St., New Mexico, TCU, UNLV, Colorado St., San Diego St., Air Force, and Utah.
