Every year, us Vikings fans devote our attention, passion and just pure love to watching their sport. Constantly we are shown something dismal and unacceptable. It is a tough league and we have more talent than most teams. How do we manage to work it away. Beyond that, I never like when the Vikings are given too much attention, because then we find a way to squander it... see Mike Tice's years, 5-0, 6-0 starts only to lay eggs.
I want to believe. I do believe... but shouldn't we chill out... look at what we have to deal with for the first 5 weeks:
@ Packers - 13-3 (Aaron Rodgers will do adequately for them)
Colts - 13-3 (division winners how many years in a row now)
Panthers - 7-9 (no slouch with a completely retooled offense)
@ Titans - 10-6 (what do running QBs usually do to us? Cue up the Michael Vick highlights)
@ Saints - 7-9 (were one game away, just like the Vikings from playoffs last year)
THAT'S THE FIRST 5 GAMES!!!! We could be 0-5 starting out. Do I think that will happen? No, but I don't see dominance anywhere yet either. This has got to be near the worst starting schedule for any team this season. Only schedule that I've seen worse, was the Bills last year.
Are we really going to go 4-1 to start the season? Doubtful. We're certainly not going 5-0 and I'm an optimist! Look at what we have to deal with later in the season... Jaguars... AT Jacksonville (11-5 and got better defensively). Buccaneers... AT Tampa (9-7, division winners). And the Giants (10-6, superbowl winners). What more is there to be said? That's 8 games against awful hard opponents, 9 if you count the second Packer matchup.
We will be good, no doubt, but ALL of you better expect to struggle once again just getting to the playoffs. Great team, tough opponents. It's gonna be a grind. All I'm saying is hold the hype, but cheer even louder. That's all.
