My opinion, and I know I'm reading into it a little early, but it tells me that we're going to try and trade Cabrera and basically try and sell high.  I think we're trying to stock pile all this pitching that will help us in a couple years.

And if the reports that I've been hearing comparing Matusz to Cole Hamels are true, then I'm excited for him to get started.  Depending on how soon we sign him, he could possibly start as high as Frederick or maybe start at Delmarva and finish the season at Frederick...

And another good thing is that signability won't be an issue like it was last year with Wieters...

And to top it all off, he's happy to be an Oriole...

I agree team,

I do not know why they are still going after pitchers when the team clearly needs to get some power in the system for the future.  They got a lot of good young arms in the system know and it really looks like they need to replace a SS, 2BS (of the future.  Who knows what is going to happen with Roberts) and need power at 1st.  I think the OF looks good and Catcher with Weiters looks fantastic.  Even if they are going to go after Tex and even if they get him, eventually he will retire or his play will fall to the point where he will be the DH.

That's the difference between baseball and football.  For the most part in football you draft more for need and not talent.  In baseball, drafting is like a crap shoot it's always hit or miss on talent which is why in most cases (depending on bonus demands) you go after the top talent available on your board, not particularly on what your needs are.

Actually, this article says his name is pronounced MAT-us

I also found this great article from the San Diego paper StunninSteve recommended.  Definitely worth reading.

Good article.  It is interesting to note that his asking price is a little less than $400,000 more than what we paid Jake Arrieta in the 5th round.  Even though we knew we were getting a first round talent out of him.  Not to mention the fact that's 4-5 million less than what we paid Wieters...  Good pitcher at a good price...
