why would the Phillies take a 19 yr HS senior (did he flunk a yr) at ss. sure, they will convert him to a 3b, but rumors were they were taking a kid out of texas christian, who they may call up late this yr to pitch in relief. what happened ?
and then why did they take 3 straight high school kids who won't pitch here for atleast 5-6 yrs from now ?
why don't they ever use kids from college who can play within a year like Alex Gordon-kc-oklahoma university or a ton of other college kids who are now playing major league baseball after 2 or 3 yrs.
you can see how much talent a college kid has over a high school kid who is still growing, maturing etc. they continue to take these HS kids. i don't get it. the time to win is now. you can build for the future, but 4 straight high schoolers. wow!
always taking HS guys? Savery? Nearly the entire current roster (minus Cole). it is called rebuilding the worst minor league system in MLB. stop it ed wade. get back on your atros board for ideas on who to be a GM.
...And Cole, Brett, Joe Savery, Carrasco, Drabek, Bastardo, Outman, and a few a forgot their names. It is not likely we'll be hurting on the pitching front before a couple of these guys develop (hopefull FO keeps their word and does what it has to to sign these kids away from college). I like the first day picks (at least rounds 1-5, no time to read others scouting report).
