Let me ask you a question freeman, do you discount Joe Torres track record with the great yankee teams of the late 90's and early 2000???  Coaches with great players have to be able to do one thing, manage the personalities on that team.  Coach Jackson has not only done that, it's what he's built his career on.  Winning championships are a team effort, and when I say team I mean everybody from the front office down to the 3 string players.  Yes he was fortunate to have some great players, but he got them to play in his system, to maximize their value.  You don't just win championships because you have great players, there needs to be chemistry and focus.  Two things that Phil preaches to his players to take them to the next level.  He is the one who helped develop the Michael Jordan's of the world, the Kobe Bryants, the Scottie Pippens, and so on and so on.   So give some credit where credit is due, the man is a great coach, perhaps the greatest of all time.

Ok Iceman you have a point... but great coach? Come on by all means am I not jumping with Freeman here.... but he is touted as one of the best coaches (which he isn't) I agree with the luckiest... I mean come on as badly written as it is the point is he is lucky.  You are comparing Torres Championships to Jacksons? That is funny...  Jackson has had at least the best player in the game or the best player at his position when they have won it all.  Torre... well he has had some real good players not the "best" player... ARod didn't win anything with he won with the likes of Cone, Brosius, Oneil, Tino, Jeter (who so many people tout as over rated) I don't obviously being a Yankee fan... he isn't and wasn't AROD at SS or Nomar or what not... but did what he did hit the ball and hit in the playoffs. He won with the likes of Ricky Ledee...  jeez.  Yeah Clemens came on later but his ERA was floating over 4.  Vizcianio/Sojo at 2nd base, Williams who can forget him? Justice what a year he had for us...  I mean come on super Stars you compare them to Kobe/Jordan/Pippen/Shaq? Lets be real here... Arod is the Kobe, and we haven't won with him.  I think Jackson is a good coach just was a good coach that got lucky.  Brown was a great coach that got unlucky until he hit the Pistons.  And what have they done without him?

Torre, a great manager, Hardly. My 10 year old daughter could sit at home in her bedroom with those  teams names in a hat and pick them out for the line up each night and win. If you have to control egos in the big leagues then you might as well go home because it's not going to happen once signed to a contract. Let's face it, in order to have championship teams you need a team that stays healthy and feeds off of each other all year long and if your fortunate enough to have the players that Phil Jackson and Joe Torre has had over there careers then you just have an edge going into it, big edge at that.

Actually, Torre's record pre-Yankees was awful and he's doing poorly so far this year with the Dodgers.

While I agree with most of the post, that example doesn't exactly help your cause.
