so since you state that fighting a trained fighter is different!!
What makes you think a rookie in anything, regardless of age will beat a veteran?
nobody is making excuses, you guys are the ones saying kimbo would've lost.
WOULD'VE?.....kimbo has no training..... he beat mercer, tank abbott, and james thompson, ALL 3 OPPONENTS HAVE BEEN IN MMA FOR YEARS!!!

I actually feel that MMA could carve out a decent niche on network TV. Of course it wouldn't be any of the main headliners from the PPV, but there are a lot of undercard fights that don't get shown that were better that what CBS and EliteXC showed this weekend.
But I think the way to do it would be to bring over UFC Wired to one of the networks to build some interest and understanding for the sport. I watch it every Friday night on my HD channels and I love it. It showcases some really great fights and usually shows a build up of fights for the fighters in the main event of the upcoming PPV and it essentially is a 1 hour commercial for the coming event.
Another option would be to start airing old episodes of TUF so that people will get to see some of what goes into training for MMA and get to learn some of the new faces of the sport as well. Although some of the episodes are more reality TV than actually training and fighting.
I dunno, that's my thoughts on it. I would love to see more fight nights on network TV but the key is that they need to get a quality company to do it. And right now Zuffa owns all the groups that I know of that are respected, so who knows if it'll happen and when.

Actually Kimbo does have training. He's been training with Bas Rutten, one of the best ever in MMA, for over a year now. And the competition he has faced were, in order, and old out of shape boxer, an old out of shape brawler that has won 2 fights in 10 years, and Thompson, the most legitimate competition yet. And Thompson was hand picked because he is notorious for having a glass chin. Even after landing clean shots to his chin Kimbo still couldn't finish him off.
I understand what you are saying though, Kimbo is still just a rookie in the sport and shouldn't be expected to come in and dominate. But that is what EliteXC was billing him as, the next big thing. If you are going to say he is that great then put him against the best you have to offer and prove it, trial by fire like UFC did with Lesnar. If you are going to give him fights like what he has had don't put him as the main event because he doesn't deserve it. Everyone has to earn their stripes in the fighting world and come up through the ranks.
With more experience he could truly be great, he has the strength to potentially be a monster. But he is too new and shouldn't be made out to be a god just yet. But in my personal opinion he will never be any good. He is too old and already in the later years of his career. But the main reason he won't do well is that he is just too slow both in actual speed and reaction time. He is all muscle and can't move his body like he needs to be able to for MMA. Hell, he was barely able to wrap up for a full guard this weekend because of it. He's a bare-knuckle boxer and nothing more, sorry.

People can say that Kimbo is garbage and this guy and that guy would destroy him but would YOU ever want to fight him? Would you be intimidated seeing what his strike has done to anyone that was brave enough to fight him?
He is definately hyped through the roof and he is definately not the best MMA fighter in the world or even close. He is however an exciting and marketable new commodity for Elite XC and lets see how he does as his pro career progresses.
Can you tell me of a single fighter that in his first 4 fights in either MMA or boxing that fought the top tier fighters or would be capable of being a champion? Probally not....
Point is that he is fun to watch and that he is a beast and is exciting to watch. Hopefully as his career progresses he will show the dedication necessary to become an elite heavyweight and prove the naysayers wrong. It is not his fault that his story has been hyped and that he has generated this type of buzz.. Because of this guy even more people are tuning into MMA that normally would not have cared to watch. There is nothing wrong with expanding your fan base.

The problem with EliteXC is that they really only have mediocre heavyweights to put against Kimbo. Big guys are a commodity. Even UFC is very limited in that division, although there are many guys in UFC at the bottom of the division that would give Kimbo problems, not to mention guys like Gabriel Gonzaga in the middle. (has Kimbo EVER had to defend a head kick?) There are free agents out there, but none will take the chance with Kimbo until he's more than an "internet sensation". Cro Cop,Sylvia, Arlovski, Couture, Fedor, and maybe Nogueira (depending on who you ask) could possibly be there for a real challenge for Kimbo. Those guys aren't idiots, except for maybe Sylvia, and they would have nothing to gain by fighting a guy who's fighting on a record that's largely myth. I don't think CBS wants their contrived hero's gravy train to end though, which it would, very quickly, at the hand of any of those guys. Could you imagine Cro Cop kicking the side of Kimbo's "Brother John" head? I could, and it would pop like Thompson's ear.
Kimbo is a figment of everyone's imagination. He won on Saturday by absolutely the worst fight stoppage in my viewing history (I bought UFC 1!!), over a glass-jawed, hand-picked opponent. That does not bode well for his next fight, which will probably be Brett Rogers ( who is a smaller version of Kimbo, a black, younger Tank Abbott, and seems to have been "introduced" to us Saturday to set up that fight with Kimbo, which is a bad match up for Brett, I smell Vince McMahon here)
What will kill MMA is not bad fight stoppages. It will be the force feeding of guys like they are doing with Kimbo. This isn't WWE where you give us John Cena until we decide to like him. The fighting is legit, and if the guy is NOT (i.e. Tim Sylvia, and Kimbo so far), the people will know! That is what EliteXC needs to be aware of.
