If we're going to look at next year, let's take a gander at the biggest Free Agents (unrestricted):

Corey Maggette and Elton Brand
Agent 0 and Antawn Jamison
Allen Iverson
Baron Davis
Jermaine O'Neal
Shawn Marion
Entire Spurs Veteran bench

I'm omitting Stephon Marbury because he actually makes teams worse at this point of his career.  And the list of restricted free agents is too big to get into; plus, it seems kind of rare that a restricted free agent gets signed by another team.  Disclaimer: some of these guys have some kind of team or player options, and I'm not sure of the details.

Anyhow, these are some franchise-changing names here.  The Mavs will be wiping some big contracts off their books this year and might be a major player.  That could be huge, since they'd be downright awesome with several of these additions, like Marion or Iverson.  They should take a hard look at moving Kidd--he's no longer the player they're paying him to be.

An obviously eager team now will be the Miami Heat.  I think they have near total freedom to spend cash.  They will get Michael Beasly or Rose in the draft, and then have cash to take at least one of these guys, maybe two.  Can you imagine them with Jamison and Marion, for instance?  Or Iverson to give Wade back court help?  I'm pretty sure the Clips have an option on Brand, but he'll be a pretty big fish to go after.  Miami could be in for a Boston-esque turn-around next year.

Dude, half the guys on your list are restricted free agents.  They aren't going anywhere.  Marion would have to give up 17 million this year to move.  That would be dumb.  The same situation with Davis.  I am pretty sure Iverson and Oneal are both restricted too.  Miami will probably keep Marion this year but next he will be unrestricted and hit the road.

The big name players that can opt out are  Allen Iverson, Baron Davis, Jermaine O'Neal, Elton Brand, Corey Maggette, Shawn Marion,  Stephon Marbury, Ron Artest, and Gilbert Arenas.

Chris Duhon, Bonzi Wells, Michael Finley, and Antawn Jamison are the only big name unrestricted free agents.

Big name restricted free agents, the ones almost certainly staying, are Josh Childress, Josh Smith, Emeka Okafor, Loul Deng, Ben Gordon, Daniel Gibson, J.R. Smith, Andris Biedrins, Monta Ellis, Shaun Livingston, Nenad Krstic, Andre Iguodala,  and Jose Calderon.

I would say the Cavs are going to heavily pursue Elton Brand, Baron Davis, and Ron Artest, if any of them opt out. Dan Gilbert has said that he has no qualms about spending more money, and as of right now the Cavs are trying to unload Ben Wallace's and Wally Szczerbiak's monster contracts.

Why can't cavs fans get this idea in their heads.  YOU HAVE NO CAP SPACE TO SIGN A BIG NAME GUY!!!!!  You may be able to get a mid level guy but you can't get someone like Brand or Davis.  You will not find anyone dumb enough to take Wallace's contract, he is noticably a shadow of his old self.  Szcerbiak is gonna be there next year too.  Keep this in mind.  If you sign someone this year to a dumb contract, you will not be able to sign Lebron when his contract is up.

Do yourself a favor and study up on the NBA's Salary cap rules.  Then you will quit talking about the nonsense of signing a big name guy in Cleveland.  There are only four teams that will have massive cap space this year.  Miami, Washington, LA Clippers, and Memphis.  Everybody else would have to do a crazy sign and trade that would blow everybody's mind.

"Dude, half the guys on your list are restricted free agents. "

No, they're not.  They have a team or player option that I mentioned.  These are all unrestricted.

Unrestricted means no restrictions.  Player option or team option is not a true unresticted free agent.  But thank you for clearing that up for me.
