LSU's football team will open the 2009 season against Washington in Seattle, senior associate athletic director Verge Ausberry announced on Friday.

In the first of two games scheduled between the teams, LSU and Washington will meet on Sept. 5, 2009 in Husky Stadium. Washington will make the return trip to Baton Rouge on Sept. 29, 2012.

LSU's 2009 schedule is now complete.

"We are excited to be able to sign this home-and-home deal with Washington," Ausberry said in a release. "We want to be able to play a non-conference game against a team from a BCS league each year if possible and the addition of Washington to our schedule in 2009 and 2012 gives us that opportunity. The Washington contest is also one that will be very attractive to our fans and it will allow us to bring the LSU football experience to another part of the country."

Next season's game will be the second meeting the schools have had in football. LSU beat the Huskies 40-14 win in 1983 at Tiger Stadium. At the time, a Tiger Stadium record crowd of 82,390 watched as the unranked Tigers, behind three rushing touchdowns by quarterback Jeff Wickersham, upset the ninth-ranked Huskies.

This will be the fifth time in the past eight years that the Tigers have met a member of the Pac-10 in a regular season contest, a stretch that dates back to a 59-13 road win over Arizona in 2003.

Other LSU games against Pac-10 teams in recent years include a 22-21 overtime win over Oregon State in Tiger Stadium to open the 2004 season; a 35-31 road victory over Arizona State to start the 2005 season; and a 45-3 victory over Arizona in Tiger Stadium in 2006.

LSU is 12-3 all-time against members of the Pac-10, which includes a 2-0 mark in games under Coach Les Miles.

Good news to hear. Washington should be a decent team next year. It will be fun to see Locker up against that Defense.

Good For LSU and Washington.  It will be quite a matchup.  Traveling to Husky Stadium is a tough task.

going out of the south I like it!  I hate to bring this up btw and dont really want to start an argument but it is kind of funny that this is considered as a good thing but people ragged on OSU for having no quality OOC games even though we went to Washington and won last year... just kind of funny... because if the title of this was OSU to WASH in 09 the thread would turn into an OSU bash... anyways, sorry to open up pandoras box on your thread, overall a good move by LSU to get out there.. Jake Locker should be fully beasted by then and may be a tougher game for LSU then people think

This should shape up to be a good one. Ask USC or Ohio State...LSU will certainly get a test. Might only be for a half...but they'll get tested. UDUB just doesn't have the depth. They really fall on their faces mid 3rd quarter.

Now if only the 2008 season would start. Oregon vs. Washington August 31st should be a good start to 08.

Wow, Washington truly does have one of the hardest schedules, just like last year. Should be an interesting game.
