You know, the octogenarian uncle or grandpa or aunt who figures, "Screw it, I'm eighty years old. I'm just going to say whatever I think." 99 times out of 100, what they say is not only honest, but absolutely right. And embarrasses the hell out of every hypocrite in the room.

Grampa Joe Paterno is not only honest, but absolutely right. And every  hypocrite in the NCAA room should be embarrassed as hell.

There is simply no reason for a playoff. It is not needed.

You are dead on.

It is sad that in this day and age no one else has the guts to say what is obvious.

I would expect Bobby Bowden to say something similar given his credentials and longevity.

You definitely won't hear something like that from Bob Stoops, Jim Tressel, or Urban Meyer.  They are to afraid to rock the boat

I may be in the minority, but I don't believe a playoff is necessary.  Even if a playoff system were created, there would still be controversy because the way teams get ranked have a great deal of subjectivity and biasism.

Joe is the best.  He says it like it is.  Miss school?  Come on.  More games in regurlar season for B-ball and the tornaments and playoffs go on forever.

A playoff is not "necessary", but then again neither is college football "necessary". A playoff would be more fair, would bring in more revenue, and would increase interest to  even greater heights. What's not to like about that?

Controversy is a part of any human endeavor. That being said, even if you had just a 4-team playoff, you would most certainly get the top two teams in there. An 8-team format would be even better. If the argument is over who should have been #8 instead of #9, or even #4 instead of #5, you greatly reduce the potential for a royal screw-job.

Agreed.  With the basketball tournament, there are talks of who should have gotten in that didn't, or who shouldn't be in who did just get in.  But in the end, the event speaks for itself.  When it's all said and done, no one really talks about those bubble teams that did or didn't make it.  The same thing can not be said for the BCS...not just the title game either.
