Ovechkin dominated the league this year and brought a last place team back from the dead and actually won their division. No he isn't surround by as much talent as Malkin with Hossa and Crosby on his line and all he did was lead the NHL in the following:
1. Points
2. Goals
3. Game Winning Goals
4. Power Play Goals
His + / - rating of +28 far exceeds Crosby's rating of +18 and Malkin's rating is even lower. He's also scored the most goals since 1996!
He was also named player of the year by a very reputable Sporting News paper in which he got 250 of a possible 287 votes for the league's highest player honor. Penguins center Evgeni Malkin finished second with 18 votes.
One last thing, I'm a Flyers fan, not a Capitals fan.

that explains alot, cause you are also a dolt. the Conn Smythe is for Playoff MVP, not regular season, and that is what the article is about. Ovechkin was nearly invisible in the playoffs and his team was out in the first round...
there is no case to be made for him winning a Conn Smythe trophy.
From the Penguins, it should likely be Crosby, Malkin or Fluery.
From the Wings it should likely be Osgood, Lindstrom or Zetterberg.

Didn't Ovechkinplay for the Russian team that won last night? Is the article about the NATIONAL HOCKEY LEAGUE? Ovechkin was out in the first round and will get little or no consideration as MVP of the post season. Cream rises to the top. Idolization is fine but please stick to the discussion of the article.

You should really try to understand what you are talking about prior to making a post. Ovechkin will not win the Conn Smythe as he is not in the Cup Finals. The Conn Smythe is for the playoff MVP, not MVP of the regular season.

What an asshat. It's posts like that one that weigh us Flyers fans down. Should be a great cup series. I think the way the Pens play defense, they're going to give Detroit all they can handle. Malkin should return to form after a subpar series against the Flyers. I think the MVP will end up being Fleury though. He's quielty been stellar throughout and would be suprised if he doesnt continue for 1 more series.
