Why have the Yankees and the Rays switched positions?  Why are the Yankees now in the cellar and the Rays are sitting in first or second in the AL East?

The Yankees did it to themselves during spring training. They woke up and ignited the Rays, to their detriment.

The Rays got charged up right after retard  Shelley Duncan intentionally spiked Akinori Iwamura in the thigh for "retaliation" of the Rays legitimate run-in into a Yankee's catcher during a home plate play during just a spring training game.  If it had been any other team or even the Yankees that ran into the catcher at home plate, we would never had heard anything more about it.  But Girardi has taken over the Yankees to lead it like a bully, and we all know that Girardi either instigated that retaliation or supported it, and certainly did nothing to suppress retaliation and calm the players down with some leadership, like Maddon.

It was wrong to retaliate against the Rays like that in just Spring Training, and the Yankees have enough class to know it.  Notwithstanding,  it was a major team turning point for the Rays - no longer to be the doormat, no longer to take that horse excrement from the Yankees or anyone else in MLB, they have since been playing with fire in their belly, and continue to do so.

Thanks Shelly Duncan.

Poor ESPN and FOX....What are they going to do if the Mets fall 1 more spot and the Rays regain first? They would be forced to mention that Florida has 2 first place teams and NY has 2 last place teams. I think that they would try to get out of their contracts with MLB.

This must be the worst season imaginable to Mike Lupica. He never had a more terrible nightmare happen for real.

Hey, PH - I'm adding you to my favs - always enjoy your posts.  I love the way the Marlins are playing - I can't wait for our Sunshine Series!  Or maybe it should be called the "Tamiami Trail Series"  (named for an highway that went from TAMpa to MIAMI).  In either event, I could only dream to see a Tamiami Series be the setting for the World Series.

Go Rays - Go Marlins (except when they're playing the Rays)

Funny how the Rays and the Marlins have lower payroll combined of any of the New York teams by themselves.....

Now that the Yankees got the cover as a weakling on the new SI issue, then that, along with the spring training hijinks against the Rays might make it a double curse  on the Yankees.    The Ortiz shirt being planted in cement was just a diversion.   I'm just sorry it was Jeter on the cover - I admire him - he is pure class.

I agree.

The timing is actually quite ironic, considering Jeter's hand/wrist injury happened less than 12 hours before the magazine arrived in the mail.

Does that makie this cover a double-reverse-backhand jinx?

Thnx. Always doing my part to make sure both Florida teams get some respect.

I can't wait to see the Rays come to town. This year is no doubt going to be the most exciting in the history of our series and nothing will be better than an October matchup. And since we all don't have issues with one another like other inter-state rivals, we all will be able to attend a World Series parade no matter what if they both make it. It'll be worth the drive either way.
