1966 Alabama.
Started the season ranked number 1 and were 2 time defending national champions. Alabama was a dominate team. The Tide finished 1966 on a 20-game unbeaten streak and outscored its opponents 267-37. Seven wins were by more than 20 points; six wins were by shutout. Voters mysteriously decided to put both MSU and ND ahead of the unbeaten Tide late season and they faced off in their bowl. Instead of trying to go for the win the coward Ara Parseghian, the coach of ND, decided to run the clock out in the final minutes to a 10 - 10 tie. Meanwhile Alabama proceeded to destroy Nebraska 34-7 in the Sugar Bowl to finish the season the only unbeaten/untied team. Yet, most voters resided in the northeast at the time still decided to give a split championship to ND - MSU. Perhaps the greatest injustice ever in college football.
